    Bees:

Ok, so we have decided to do two entree's for the reception. The first choice is Fried chicken however, we are aware that some people do not like (or cannot eat) fried foods..... So we are trying to figure out what would be a good balance..... For the second meat selection please help us choose!!!

    1. Turkey with gravy

    2. Honey Glazed Ham

    3. Baked chicken breast

    4. Roast Beef

    Thanks bees!!!!

I think people like to have a beef option, so I'd go with roast beef. Mmm!

I'd do the turkey with gravy.... here's why:

my first pick would be baked chicken breast - but I don't like that you'd be stuck with two chicken dishes.

those that don't eat fried foods might not eat beef or pork, which is why I picked turkey.

Also - if you haven't - see if you can try these things from your caterer.  we narrowed down our selections based on how they tasted.  I really wanted some sort of beef, but we were underwhelmed with all their beef options.

@All In: & oracle : Thanks sooooo much.... We were thinking the same thing about giving more options than just chicken. Decisions, Decisions, lol......

I voted for ham...because (though baked chicken sounds great!) a different option aside from poultry might be a good idea.  I picked it over roast beef for purely selfish reasons though (I don't eat a lot of beef!!!).  Either ham or roast beef would be what I would go with, but that is just me!

@mrs_pugetsound: Thank you, we have narrowed it down to ham and roast beef.... We would love to do baked chicken as well but I agree that if we are giving two options, it might as well be two DIFFERENT options ;) FI & I both love Ham so of course we will tend to lean towards that but we are trying to think what would most of our guest eat as well..... Thank you again!!!

I voted for ham based on personal preference. All of them sound pretty good though.

I agree... you should try to go with a non-poultry if your first entree is chicken! Roast beef!

I agree with adding the beef option. Most people like some beef at a wedding.

Definitely do a tasting. I voted roast beef, but I have my reservations -- here's why. There are a WIDE VARIETY of preferences when it comes to how beef should be served. I have friends who prefer it basically still moo-ing; I really only feel comfortable eating something when it has the barest touch of pink at the center. I prefer cooked brown the entire way through. The "classy way" to serve roast beef is often very pink, which means the few times that I've gotten beef at a wedding, I've ended up eating side dishes only.

Long story short -- try 'em, ask if they're comfortable cooking the beef longer for folks who prefer it well done, and/or let folks know how well your caterers tend to cook it before they RSVP with meal choices. Just my two cents!

I agree that most people like a beef option at a wedding, and based on the guest meal selections at my wedding beef was far more popular than chicken - as in less than 15 people selected chicken.  Then again I also had a seafood option so maybe that stole the chicken vote?  But the seafood & beef were split about 50/50 so I don't think you can go wrong with the roast beef.  I know you are concerned that people can't/don't eat fried food, but there are quite a lot of people who cannot/don't eat ham/pork, so its just something to consider.

I love honey glazed ham! But I think most people would want to go with the beef option.

Roast beef. Since you already have one poultry option, have the other choice be beef or pork.

Btw, under what conditions would a person be unable to eat chicken? Not everyone likes it but they are still physicially capable of eating it since a chicken allergy is nearly unheard of.

I voted ham, because it holds up well. Chicken and beef can be dry and flavourless.

Is a fish option available? A lot of people dont eat red meat or pork. I voted Turkey for the options you have because you dont want to chicken dishes. Good luck!

Do you have to do fried chicken?  I would think a baked chicken option would go over better with most people, just given the setting.  Don't get me wrong, I love a good piece of fried chicken, but I don't want to necessarily be eating it when I'm in my cocktail dress.

I voted ham, because as a PP said, it holds up well.

I would choose roast beef for #2...  not beacuse I like roast beef (I'm ALL for the chicken!) but because you probably shouldn't have two poultry items on your menu and between roast beef and ham I think that the beef is more popular.

I chose ham. I have food allergies, so with fried chicken and roast beef,I'd starve at your wedding! Lol

And I think ham complements the fried chicken more...it's like comfort food. And they are both a bit salty so the same sides would taste good!

@Ember78: I couldn't eat fried chicken because of wheat allergy and egg white allergy. A lot of people with those allergies are also allergic to cow milk and beef. They're really common all together from what my allergist said.

@Miss Root:  I don't "have" to do fried chicken.... baked chicken breast can be an option.... just a bit worried that the chicken breast will be dry....and then I do not eat roast beef so then that means that I will have nothing to eat but side dishes ;( ..... We are going to do a tasting and see which taste better and go from there.....

I remember my cousin got married and they had to play $100 per plate.... Roast beef was served (and that was the only option) and I would say... at my table...and  the two tables beside me did NOT eat the beef..... It was super RED and dry on the parts that was "done".... I know that everyone in my family (and his) LOVES fried chicken and Ham...... so we just have to figure it out..... we still have time!!!!

    Thanks again!

@MrsDulce: LOL..... oh no.... That would suck.... BUT I myself would starve at my wedding if I had dry bake chicken and roast beef, lol.... I LOVE chicken (baked and fried) but I only like dark meat (thigh, leg,...) so I am afraid that the Baked chicken breast may be a bit dry for me.......... There is not a one person on my side (or his side of the family) that does not like fried chicken or ham..... Roast beef I think can be a hit or miss.... I know we can't please every single guest at the wedding but I just want to make sure that we make the right selections...
