I’ve come up with some ideas, but so far they have been too time consuming (crepe paper rose pomanders), too expensice (pretty much everything else), or just not enough (peacock feathers lining the aisle). Pics below are of the things I’ve made, have tried to use for inspiration, or just plain like. Any ideas bee’s would be MUCH appreciated!! I’m trying to stay in a tight budget and I have $200 to $300 left for the ceremony decor. I’ve already purchased a 4 foot long chandelier that will hang in the gazebo, see pics below:
The outdoor ceremony site with 12 foot across by 12 foot tall gazebo: (chandelier will hang from this. There will be candles lining the back wall behind gazebo)
Chandelier I bought:
Pomander inspiration to make in different sizes to hang from the gazebo towards the front. They would also line the aisle and hang from the chairs:
What I made yesterday and today. Now here’s the problem: it would take me about 80 HOURS to make the rest of them! I thought about adding in tissue paper pomanders to mix it up, but it takes sooooo much time for those too (not 80 hours but maybe 20 to 30 total) that I’m not sure it’s worth doing anymore. I can use the 2 I’ve made so far as decor though:
Here’s an idea of the aisle I found but gave up on because I would have to help my coordinator do this the day of the wedding and I want to be stress free that day:
I’ve found some affordable candle holders that I can hang from hooks going down the aisle, but honestly they don’t fit my theme. they are about 7 inches tall and 3 inches wide at the base, for $3 each.
Bees, any ideas for affordable outdoor ceremony decor??? I’m not willing to spend 40 to 80 hours making something myself, but I’m not opposed to DIY.
Chairs will be black. Other then that there is no aisle decor to speak of. I do have hundreds of white silk rose petals that I bought but now I don’t know how to use them because I’m doing purple and teal with black/gold accents.

I’m using blue lanterns and just hanging them from the chairs in the aisle using silver ribbon (you could use gold). This depends on the time of your wedding as to how cool that would look, it may loose pizzaz in the daytime.
Another idea would be to keep it simple and get some blue/purple/teal/gold fabric to drape over the top of the gazebo and then also over/through the backs of the chairs that are in the last row and then those closest to the aisle. Pops of color but MANY less man hours than the pomanders.

NDBee what a beautiful lantern! I saw something like that but they were $150. I can’t believe that is so affordable! I would love to do something like… any idea how I can get about 14 of those?? without bidding on the one’s you’ll be buying of course. 🙂

If you want to do the feathers on the chairs, it could be totally prepared ahead of time and wired onto a clip. The co-ordinator then just has to clip tham on the chairs. This would only take a few momenst and shouldn’t need your help.
My first thought when I looked at your pics was to cover up the yellow flowers in front of the gazebo.
Will your venue let you place other potted flowers in your colors? They don’t even need to be planted- just get some beautiful hanging baskets and place them on the ground in front of the other plants.
You could repeat that look by using a clamp to hold two baskets with the same colored flowers on the front pillars of the gazebo
You can get clamps like this-called pipe clamps to secure the baslet to the pillar.

julies1949 thank you! Beautiful picture you posted by the way!! I’m not too worried about the color of the flowers around the gazebo actually. And it’s not the gazebo i was too worried about, I figure with the chandelier and all of us standing up there it will be pretty enough.
The aisle was my main concern, but I think I’ve come up with an idea for an alternative…. I would only spend $55 on 14 of the lanterns below. The only bad part is the shipping which would run me $78!!! Yikes! But it would look beautiful at sunset with LED lights inside. Then I can sell them again or use them in the backyard. Walmart and Lowes have cheap shepherds hooks that I can get.
The color in person is more pink then purple (said by previous people who purchased these), but my mom said there is an ink that goes over glass that can tint it to a more purple color so that it will match the wedding. What do you think bees? I know it’s not peacock really, but the color will look beautiful!

@NYshoppingirl: those lanterns are beautiful! They will look great on shepherd’s hooks.
Where are you ordering them from?

julies1949 they are from amazon.com. Here’s the link:
But other people are finding them from ebay with free shipping. They are a great deal from either place!! Look around on the internet and you’ll find some other deals I’m sure.

I’m using these with white flowers. They’re jumbo mums and I bought the pre-made mason jars at Kirklands. My reception is outside, so I’m using shepherd hooks. You can throw in a few peacock feathers.

Instead of pomanders you could maybe do pom poms instead. These would give you a similar feel: http://www.futuregirl.com/craft_blog/2009/5/giveaway-martha-stewart-pom-pom-kits.aspx and they probably take a lot less time to make. The Martha Stewart website http://www.eksuccessbrands.com/marthastewartcrafts/Products/Vintage_Girl_Pink_Pom_Poms_44-20021.htm has a kit that makes 5 pom poms for about $17.
