    Hi ya bees!!

Question....how do you buy a nursing bra before baby arrives?  I'd like to have one or two before she's born, but how do you know what size to get?  Do you get the size you are at 9 months? or a size up?  Do they come in just "general" sizes?

What did you bees do who have "Been there done that"?

I'm in your boat, she's not here yet, but I just went bra shopping. I'm just getting a size up.

I waited until my milk came in and then went and got bras.  I figured since I was going to be  spending most of my time braless and/or topless trying to get nursing going well in the first few days it wouldn't matter if I didn't have a nursing bra right away.

I also waited until my milk came in. Your boobs get HUGE and one size up might not be comfortable. I would suggest getting a few nursing bras with no underwire for the first few months so you can sleep in them and then once you start feeling like a normal person again, go buy some with wires. It makes you feel so pretty and sexy all of a sudden! lol

    I took a guess...

The nursing bras that fit me the best are actually from Walmart. They were like $12.99 for a set of two! And are an all cotton, underwire free bra. For that price I didn't care if the first set I got only fit me for the rest of my pregnancy and until my milk came in, but they ended up being a little big and worked perfectly.

I got two sizes up. I'm back to my normal boob size now  (A cup-wah)though after three months of breastfeeding, so i just wear my regular bras and can BF comfortably. But the nursing ones were awesome when my boobs were huge and I was learning how to breastfeed.

I second getting the sleep nursing bras too.  I didn't wear mine out of the house because I didn't feel like they gave me any support, but they were comfy at night in my pajamas. You are going to need to sleep in your bra AND get breast pads because you are going to leak all over the place. My boobs also JUST stopped leaking last week. I've been in a bra 24/7 the past three months!

You definitely want to wait till your milk comes in if your planning on breastfeeding because it will make a difference.

I'd suggest getting one or two cheap ones in the size you currently are just to have something then getting measured a week or two after the baby is born to get the proper size. I was 1-2 cups larger than my normal size during pregnancy and 3 sizes larger after my milk came in.

Be aware you may not just be able to just go out and buy them, when I got measured I was shocked that the maternity stores still only carry basic bra sizes for nursing bras - I had to look online to find my new size (30 F!!).

Personally I love these sports bra ones for wearing around the house and at night (they just come in S,M,L).

I'm also a big fan of the nursing tanks.  They've been great to sleep in and they come in S-M-L sizes.  I still got a size or two larger than I'd need just because I didn't like anything tight around my chest after the baby was born.

    Great tips girls!!

You should have seen me in the diaper aisle the other day trying to figure out which ones to get.  There's so many little (and BIG) decisions to be made about everything.  sometimes I think 9 months just isn't enough time to prepare properly.  :)

I was fitted for nursing bras about a month before she came and that seemed to work out pretty well for me. I also bought some after she was born when I decided what I liked and what worked for us. A Pea in the Pod makes a WONDERFUL racerback which is ideal for summertime tank tops.
