Only certain priests take a vow of poverty, they’re usually priests belonging to an order (ex: Domincans).  I think a gift certificate would be great!  Does he have a hobby?  Maybe tailor something to his interests?  You could always ask him personal questions about his hobbies, speak to a parish secretary about him and see what sort of things he likes.

we will be giving the priest who is performing our ceremony cash. But I might get the priest who did our prep work with us a gift certificate to Borders or something like that.

I’m a bigger fan of Barnes and Noble…larger selection and cheaper classics, better quality classics.

I would check with the secretary though.  $150 at one store is a lot for one store, you know?  Maybe two gift certificates, does he have a restaraunt that he likes to go to?  Although, if he’s taken a vow of poverty, I don’t know if he’d go out to eat much…

Im in the same boat. Our pastor is marrying us for free also but said they except donations. Is this a donation to the church or to him or both? I was thinking $200.
