Ok ladies, need some advice. I currently have a 1.2 round brilliant cut in a halo setting with a round cut eternity band. Husband and I are going to upgrade my ring for anniversary. I’m trying to decide between a 2.5 carat round brilliant with sapphire pear shaped side stones or the classic Harry Winston 2.5 carat pear with side baguettes. Advice? Opinions?

Pear shaped!! I love how different and unique they are

Have you seen pear in person? The only reason I ask is because when it comes to the sparkle department it’s hard for fancy shapes to compete with round brilliants – which is one of the reasons they command a higher price-point. The sparkle is also different due to the shape. It’s not bad! I’m not saying that at all…I personally find it to be gorgeous. But what I am saying is that it’s not for everyone.
I don’t think you can go wrong with either of the settings but I would recommend you going to a local jeweler just to see a pear next to a round brilliant to find out what tugs at your heart-strings in person…that’s if you haven’t already. If you have and this is what you’ve narrowed it down to…well, I’d go with the pear. But I’m a fancy junky. 🙂 Congrats on the anniversary!

I say if you’re going for the 2.5 carat, go for the round. IMO the pear shape is gorgeous and looks unique at any size, but a 2.5 round is BREATHTAKING.

Honestly I don’t usually like pears unless they are really large. I think the pear in your case would be gorgeous. Round is always my favorite though…

@Oklahomagirl: I’m assuming the upgrade involves trading in your current stones/settings? If not, I’d say go for the pear, and switch your current round/halo to RHR.
even if you’re trading in the current setting, I’d still go for the pear, because you’ve been wearing a round shape for awhile, a pear is classic and beautiful and would be a wonderful upgrade/different look.
HOWEVER, since your eye has now been “trained” to see everyday that sparkle that RB gives off, and even more sparkle factor with the halo….PLEASE DO look at the pear stones in person and play with them awhile…because they do act very differently than a RB, and you may find yourself disappointed?
Either of the examples you’ve shown in your photo are gorgeous, however 😉 good luck making that tough decision!!!

Love pears! Especially with the side stones like that (baguettes?) . So that’s my vote 😛

I have round brilliant diamonds but I love pear diamonds too. Think pear diamonds are so unique and elegant. I agree with a prior poster who said you’ll want to see them both in person.

How about a 2.5 ct round with tapered baguettes. That’s drool worthy!
