Ok. I am getting married in Cuba in August. I wanted my wedding to be a 1950’s feel Havana affair. My sister is a stylist and I am a designer, but my Maid of Honor is on a different agenda in terms of fashion.
My sister is in a vintage floral and I am designing my own dress to be of a 1950’s flavour. I was going to make my MOO’s dress however I don’t want to go through all the trouble if she is going to be miserable.
This is what my sister’s dress looks like:
I can’t get my MOO info a vintage shop to save my life and I know it would make her miserable to wear it. She thinks this dress looks like curtains (which quite frankly upsets me because I think it’s awesome). I gave my MOO the option to find a dress with a fitted bodice and a full skirt with a natural waistline and this is what she has come up with:
I could LIVE with the first option (the strapless) style if it was in a crisp fabric (My sister’s dress is crisp cotton and I will be wearing a crisp cotton organdy). Limp chiffon just isn’t going to cut it. I cant’ stand the second style with the cowl neck.
Thoughts? do you guys think this would work along side my sister’s dress in a cotton fabric?

When I first saw the shape and style of that dress I thought this dress from David’s bridal:
they have it in a ton of colors and it’s a cotton sateen, so it’s a little crisper than the chiffon.

The ciffon choices don’t go at all. It’s YOUR wedding day. She should be happy to wear whatever you ask her to wear. lol. I like the David’s Bridal option. I’ve seen it on a girl in person and it’s very pretty. She could get it in a color to compliment your sister’s dress.

Um, give her more direction. If you want her to be dressed in a certain way, then talk to her. But don’t make her chose it alone.

thank you for all your responses. Yes, this dress looks like a nice option. I have given her LOTS of direction and picked several dresses that she’s poo pooed. AND when I suggested cotton over chiffon, this the response I got:
“i imagine that most dresses they have there don’t come in cotton. gen’s dress doesn’t look crisp in the pictures … last night when i put the image of the chiffon dress beside the image of gen in her dress, the two looked pretty similar in weight/look. maybe she’s planning on starching hers or something”
As you can see…she’s not the easiest to work with. I think I’m just going to pick something and put her in it.

Hmm, I think the floral dress is cute. In the end, it’s your wedding. There’s no reason for her to be ‘miserable’ just because she has to wear a certain dress. She can get over it for the day 😛
