Here is the phoenix dress I was talking about in my first question (will be wearing it in the wedding ceremony), had trouble uploading it (new to this board). :)
I really like the dragon/pheonix one, it's more traditional fancy qipao than the other one. The butterfly one seems more of a every day qipao, not fancy enough. Where did you find the dragon/pheonix qipao?
IMO, the red pheonix dress is a bit much. Are you doing a western ceremony then a traditional tea ceremony?
Thanks Gerbera, I originally found the dragon/phoenix qipao on a Chinese website (www.bridal100.net), I think I also saw it on www.periwing.com too, but not sure if the final dress from Periwing is the original or an imitation.
Our tentative schedule is: 1.) Groom "retrieves" bride and then tea ceremony at my parents place (around noon). 2.) Proceed to Western spiritual ceremony in early afternoon 3.)Wedding banquet/reception, which will have another tea ceremony in it (for the groom's side of the family). We're still in the early stages of planning so there's room to maneuver. :)
I really, really love the red phoenix dress though...it's so beautiful! Maybe it's more suitable for the main part of the wedding banquet/reception, and then I can change into the qipao for the tea ceremony/farewell to guests near the end? But then I'll have to find another dress for the spiritual ceremony..maybe the standard white one (fiancee's ABC so he might prefer white during the western ceremony anyways). I'm just looking at dresses early and this really caught my eye. Thanks for your help! :)
I love the the dragon/pheonix one as well. And I don't think the phenoix dress is too flashy, as long as you have color in your wedding. If everyone is wearing white or black at the wedding, you'll definitely pop out with that dress. However its gorgeous. I've never been to a chinese wedding so I don't know if it would be flashy. If it looks traditional, and you like it, I say go for it. You should wear what you feel comfortable in. the last thing you want to have is wear a awesome dress but then you are feeling either over dress or under dressed.
I chose the qipao with the white trim. It looks more elegant and more like a bridal qipao. I agree the other one looks like just a regular red qipao. About the phoenix dress. WOW. There's a lot going on in that dress! If it fits your theme of the reception and it's your style, then go for it!
I think the last one is more of a wedding dress, but I'm not sure about red
what did you have in mind for the bridesmaids? a contrasting colour
I like #1. It looks similar to the one I wore on for the tea ceremony. The only difference is mine had gold trim, not white trim. I got mine in Temple City, CA where they also do Chinese dresses for Ms. Asia. Let me know if you need the name of the store. The store owner must be well known because I saw pictures of her with a few famous people.
I found this beautiful dress online at EastStore.com I think it is wonderful!!!
hope you like it
hi!! hhcheung2000 -- please post back where you got yours if you happen to see this again...thanks!! :)
I don't know the name of the store in English, but the lady's phone number is 626-688-6449. Her name is Helen Zhou and the address of the place is 9417 Las Tunas Dr., Temple City, CA. She makes custom dresses that are very popular and have been made for many celebrities. When you go into her store, she has an article showing dresses that were made for the Ms Asia competition and a picture with her and Mario Lopez.. (I'm not joking). I think he may have been the host for Ms Asia but I never asked her specifically.
@hhcheung: You looked so beautiful!
I voted for the dress with the white trim... it's feminine & sexy!
The person I recommended above can also make the dress with white trim as well. Helen has about 100-200 patterns to choose from and has them made in China, where it is cheaper. All of the gowns are also made out of real silk. All you have to do is give her your measurements and she will have it made to fit you and shipped to you if you live too far.
My view is that wear the 1# qipao in your wedding ceremony and choose the second one for your tea ceremony, because it's more traditional than the white dragon and phenix one.
BTW, tea ceremony is the most traditional part of Chinese wedding.
I definitely like the first one better!!
@hhcheung: you look amazing in your dress! If you don't mind me asking, how much did your dress cost? The only other issue is that I"m in Canada so I don't know how I'd get it made! I'm scared to take my own measurements!

Hi all, I'm planning on wearing this fabulous red gown as my wedding dress for the wedding ceremony. I absolutely love the phoenix embroidery on the dress, but do you think it will be too flashy though?
Also, which qipao do you think looks better (for the tea ceremony and banquet greeting guests)? I like the white detail and phoenix/dragon brocade pattern of the first dress, which makes it different from other qipaos. But I also really like the 2nd dress's simple elegance with the gold embroidery of butterflies/flowering vines on the side of the dress. (I could also reuse the 2nd dress as a formal evening gown in the future?). I'd get all 3 of them but I don't know how I'd fit all the dress changes in 1 sitting. Please give any input, opinions, or suggestions, I really appreciate your help! :D
