I have 3 weeks to go and am starting to worry that not doing any decor for the ceremony may leave it all a little bland. The ceremony is on a deck at a golf course. Our natural backdrop is the city skyline, and behind our guests (on a clear day) you can see the tips of the Rocky Mountains. The chairs are only plastic white folding chairs (round backs). And we have the deck banister and rail which is a nice wood. I was thinking of purchasing some fabric to go with our colours (purple, green, silver accents) to swag on the rail. Any other DIY affordable ideas?

I think the backdrop sounds gorgeous and you don’t need anything else. 🙂

I agree. I think the natural backdrop will be more than enough!

I would use the swag more as aisl markers if you really want to bring the colours in, I think they might block the view a bit on the railing. If it’s in the evening maybe come candles/lanterns/twinkle lights but I would add anything else really if it’s so pretty. And maybe something simple at the front just to add emphasis if you don’t already have.

I agree with the pp’s. I don’t think you really need anything. The bride and groom are going to be the focus of attention no matter where the ceremony takes place.
Here are some pics:
garland and flower poms on the rail
4 posts with ribbons waving in the breeze- you could use patio umbrealla stands with a post inserted or build wood frame bases to support a wooden pole
2 elevated floral arrangements- you could place a potted plant or hanging basket on a log or length of 6×6″ or bigger
2 potted green trees
you could place two ready made planters from the nursery on the deck rail, or borrow some from a family member’s home
