Brenda_L: I would use the “Something old, something new . . . ” adage for inspiration. For example, you could get her a sixpence for her shoe (http://www.silversixpence.com/sixpencecoin.php), and you could even include a note about what each something represents (http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/226736/weddings-good-things-something-old-new-borrowed-and-blue).

Otherwise, I love Pinch’s bridal emergency kits: http://shop.pinchprovisions.com/bridetastic-p71.aspx

Hope that helps!

Every bride needs a good primer. A great primer that is suggested for aging and drier skin is Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch, around 35USD. In general Clarins is the brand for her age group and maybe you can through smth else in there to go with it.

Or maybe a gift card to a nailspa or something.

Brenda_L: I would also consider buying her a really nice frame for her favorite wedding photo, or you could do a gift basket: it could be a night-off basket with a door sign, champagne flutes, confetti, etc., or even just a picnic basket with gourmet cheeses, a blanket, wine.

Because 50 year olds can’t be sexy? I’d probably get her a nice silk bed gown or robe, which can be a little sexy but a bit more modest. Or a spa gift certificate. Or really anything that you think she might like (you didn’t give us much info about her, so it’s hard to tell what she might like). Or, I like the PP’s suggestion of a date night basket.

Brenda_L: NH and I drink a lot of wine! But we live in a small town on Cali’s central coast, so wine floweth like water (and water doesn’t “floweth” at all, actually, because we’re having a major drought right now. Annnnnyway, do you know any of the bride’s wine preferences (i.e. white or red, peppery or fruity, that sort of thing)? If not, do you know any of her food preferences? Otherwise, what part of the country do you live in?

How about a romantic night in basket? Include a bottle of wine or champagne, a few movies, chocolates and popcorn.
