depending on how you are planning on printing them, some sites offer blank or partially populated templates, like Vistaprint?
Thanks Aisling...that's true, and I suppose I could go there if I couldn't do anything else, but I was hoping to print them at home.
I found powerpoint easy to use it easier to split margins and page in half and its alrwady in landscape view
I did our STDs in Powerpoint and really liked it but - how do you change the margins and page size, etc to make it correspond to the actual invitation? I am pretty lousy at a lot of computer stuff but want to learn! haha
I did ours in Word. I used the template from cardsandpockets.com so that I had the margins correct. It took a lot of the guess work out of it.
@alicia1745: How did you get the template? Did you buy something from them or is it somewhere on the website?
Illustrator is the best. They offer 30 day free trials. I posted a blog here on the main site recently with an illustrator tutorial. Maybe it could help?
Hi @eagle: - I saw that and was very excited and impressed by it! I guess I'm just doubtful of my ability to navigate it successfully without getting too stressed or overwhelmed - I really have no background in it so even words like "layers" or "CMYK" make me nervous, haha. It's still on my mind though; I have a lot of free time during winter and I'm excited about getting really into the invites so I might try it. I think I better make sure of other things (paper, general idea) before I get the trial though because it will probably take me 30 days to do it! :) If I end up going for it, would you mind if I asked you a few questions if I run into trouble?
@farmergirl: also do you know how you want to print them? Vistaprint? If its VP, i swear - it won't be that hard.
@eagle: Thanks!! :) I'm currently researching my paper options, hopefully I will figure that out soon and go for it! I'm sure you'll hear from me once I do, haha.
@eagle: Not sure. I liked the idea of buying my cardstock and doing it at home but I don't know if my printer's up for it. I used VP for the STDs so I'm definitely amenable to using them again!
@farmergirl: I did buy my pocketfolds from them but the template is on their website & it's free.

@farmergirl: I would honestly just use vistaprint. It is really really easy to design with their templates. Honestly I would be willing to help design your invites if you wanted!
There are a couple more sites with free templates, like:
http://www.weddingchicks.com/freebies/
http://www.i-do-it-yourself.com/2010/04/download-print-invitation-templates/ (They have YouTube videos to show you how to change the color, pictures, etc.)
http://designbetty.com/card/template_wedding_invitation_announcement
@eagle: How could I say no to that?? haha. And yay for the other templates. I'll check them all out tonight when I'm home and have better internet (lucky for me Weddingbee is one of the few sites that loads at work, haha). I'll get Illustrator soon and let you know what I'm thinking and what I need help with! :)
@farmergirl: sounds wonderful! :) So happy to help another DIY bride out.
I use PhotoShop Elements... it wasn't very expensive, and it was fairly easy to get around in the program. I have made some amazing projects with it!

Hi bees...
So I want to design and put together my invitations now while I have the time to do it. I have a lot of ideas and am excited to spend a lot of time figuring it out. However I'm not sure what program I can use on my computer. I have a Mac so I think Publisher is out, and I don't think I can afford Illustrator (and am doubtful of my ability to learn it, but it's a possibility). Word drives me nuts, haha. I found something online called Scribus but I don't know anything about it.
For the bees who designed/are designing their own, how did you do? Especially if you aren't particularly computer design savvy?
Thanks!
