I scheduled a cake tasting next week with a bakery that is charging $25 dollars for the consultation. Is it normal for bakeries to charge for tastings? The other two places I called didn’t charge a fee, so I’m wondering if this is standard.

Although some will credit you back the Tasting Fee when you place an order.
This is because Cake (Ingredients & Labour) along with One-on-one appointments cost money. IF you don’t go with them, they are still out those elements.
This is common in the food industry… many Caterers also do the same.
Hope this helps,

None of the bakeries I called charged, but I wouldn’t be opposed to a charge as long as it was taken off the cost of the final bill if I booked with them. There is a real cost to the tastings (both time and supplies), and lots of brides shop around without being serious about using someone. If they have enough business that they can support the $25 charge, more power to them. I’d only do it though if it was my first choice bakery UNLESS the cake was bad. It’s worth $25 to find out, but it’s not worth it if you are just shopping around.

Thanks for responding ladies! They aren’t my first choice but definitely in the top three. They said that the fee would be deducted from the total cost, so it is worth it.
