I really think your best option may be to just register for some additional items. Are there out of the box type of items you can register for now that the typical stuff has been purchased?
What about camping gear, patio, house stuff, board games, books, movies, etc.
I think that if you don't register for more stuff, and all that is left is expensive stuff, some guests since they can't afford anything on the registry will have to guess at a gift in their price range. You may still end up with tons of stuff that you have to return, or worse are stuck with!
My thought is for you not to worry about it as much. i know that's easier said than done, but if there are things on your registry that guests can't afford, they'll most likely end up getting you a gift card for they they can afford. Either that, or a lot of people go in on gifts together. If you're not big on trying to add thing to your registry, don't worry! I think you'll be plesantly surprised at the number of gift cards you'll receive!
Gift cards... good point! I don't know why I didn't think of that immediately. Do people generally give gift cards at showers?
I don't think people give gift cards as much at showers as they do at the weddings, since there's the "gift opening" component to the shower.
I'd register for more items with the intention of returning them and getting the money. :/

So, this should be an amazing thing, right? Who wouldn't want to log on and see gifts being fulfilled left and right. Well... in this situation, ME!
My fiance has a pocket of his family who is very wealthy. The rest of the wedding guests are just your average middle/working class people. When they found out we registered (by word of mouth), things started flying! Although, not the expensive things.... like a BUNCH of smaller gifts. There are only 3 people who have purchased things. 1 person bought all 12 sets of our dishes and all of the serving pieces. We registered for $34.99/place setting dishes thinking that one family would purchase 1 place setting. They are all gone, from one person. Kitchenaid mixer... gone. Bedding (all pieces)... gone. Towels... gone. I am having 2 showers, none of which these people are coming to, and the invites have not even been sent out yet. I'm concerned that people will receive them, go to pick out a gift and there will only be the really expensive items left! I don't want my guests to feel obligated to purchase expensive gifts because there is not much left.
The obvious solution would be to just register for more items, but really... I don't want to have to return a bunch of things once the showers are over. We have been living together so we have a lot already.
Please don't get me wrong. I am NOT complaining that all of my gifts are being purchased. We are so blessed. I just don't want to put my other guests out... Suggestions?
