My boyfriend and I just got engaged and we are buying the ring together. I think we have decided on a round brilliant cut diamond but I am still not sure of the size! I want something between 1.5-1.9 carats but I don’t know how big to go on my size 5 finger!! Can you help by posting pictures of your rings if you have a similar carat/ring size!! Plus any suggestions as to how big to go would be amazing! Everyone says you always want to go bigger once you have had the ring for a while but I’m not sure if that’s just the sales people talking!! Thanks so so much in advance 🙂

Well it’s really personal preference- if youd have to sacrifice quality to get bigger I’d def go for 1.5. Both are “pleasantly plump” and if the rock is beautiful they will both be great.
I wanted the look of a 1.5 because the rock looked balanced with the exposed skin to me. 2 looked and felt huge on my finger like I would knock it around. It didnt feel right. I didn’t try 1.8, but it likely was quite similar.
This is a fun website to play around with sizes and compare: http://www.diamdb.com
heres my 1.45 on my size 5.5 finger:

Mine is 1.7 ct and my finger is 5.5. I honestly think 1.5 would have been a better fit for my finger but I love my ring!

Not 100% sure on the exact size, but I’m guessing mine is somewhere around 1.75-2. I wear a 5.5, but its sized as 5.75 because I like my rings loose/spinning.

I have a 1.6 carat center diamond on a size 5 finger. I think it’s the perfect size for my finger. I didn’t try on any other rings or styles (my husband had my ring custom made) but I’m happy with the finger coverage.
I agree with MrsBuesleBee:. I wouldn’t sacrifice quality for size.
Happy ring shopping!

1.51 carat round size 3.5-4 finger

I would go try some on in person. The quality of the stone can have a really large bearing on how big the stone will appear. Personally, I would sacrifice size to get a better quality stone but if you go see some in person you can decide for yourself 🙂
Also, congratulations on your engagement!!

I just can suggest you, to try on rings! Pictures look different, then the look on your hand! And by the way, yes, diamonds look smaller, after you wore them for a few months! This is called diamond shrinkage syndrome! 🙂 My ring is 1.72 on my 5.25 finger in a halo, and I still would like to go bigger just after one year!

Harriet1234: I’d go bigger. Shrinkage is real. For ex on pricescope they’re always upgrading hahaha

Harriet1234: Definitely try some on in person. There were some rings I *thought* I loved when I saw online, but when I tried them on in store- it just looked ridiculous, and didn’t suite my personality in the least!

Harriet1234: Mine is just a scosh over 1.8 on a size 5.25-5.5… The ring wasn’t sized yet and the band was a little big but this should give you a good idea of coverage.

franklymydearidont: shrinkage is absolutely for real! Hahaha! I hate it!

At first I couldn’t believe that my husband got me a 1.5 carat (fiance at the time) but now I’m so used to it that I will show it was a little bigger. That’s so wrong to feel & say but shrinkage is way too real! Ring size is 5.
