Weddingbee boards

Hey ladies,

We are on our last day of our honeymoon in California, and we're spending the day in San Francisco. We've been winging it most of the trip, and having a blast, but I'd love a good recommendation for dim sum. I'd like to do it today, and we're getting ready to head into the city from Sausalito in about half an hour, so I know this is really last minute, but I'd really appreciate some help!

I've got my blackberry (only using it sparingly during the honeymoon!), so I'll get your recs on the go. Thanks SOOOOO much!

We stopped by Oriental Pearl first. The door and windows are covered in copies of their many reviews (including Rachael Ray), and inside, there were only 3 groups, all completely white. This was at noon yesterday (Monday). I didn't see any carts, and on closer inspection of the reviews in the window, they mentioned that the dim sum was cooked to order.

Granted, the reviews all said the food was really good, but it wasn't the San Francisco Chinatown experience I was looking for.

So we went to New Asia Garden instead, which was enormous, noisy, and filled with Chinese people. The food was good (except the siu long bao, which had sat for a little bit, I think, so they weren't as juicy as they could have been), but the downside here is that if you don't look Chinese, some of the waitstaff pushing the carts ignore you (I got the sense it was because maybe they didn't know how to describe their dishes to the customers in English). So it definitely helped that I can order in Chinese, but there were other non-Chinese groups there that were making out OK.

Anyway, thanks for the recommendations! We're in the Oakland airport now, waiting for our flight. When we get back, the honeymoon relaxation will be over in a major way -- we're packing up our apartment in a day, driving to Philadelphia, and closing on our first home on Friday!
