I had shingles when I was in high school (Also stress triggered). I had a nasty red rash all over my back, under my left arm & breast. It was awful, but it cleared up in about a week. The pain took a bit longer to clear up.

@sarahbeth_:  3 weeks is plenty of time for them to be gone!  Mine cleared up within a week after I started taking the anti-virals.  Just do whatever you can to keep them from getting irritated (mine were near my waistband, so they rubbed and got all scabby).  In three weeks, they’ll definitely have healed enough to cover up any marks with makeup, if there are any scars at all.

@sarahbeth_:  I got them last year, keep on the med and the cream is your best friend.  They are made worse my the stress and be careful because they are very contagious, so don’t touch the spots (don’t scratch them!), don’t let anybody else touch them, and keep fabrics from touching them (be careful when you dry off with a towel about touching the spots and then touching another part of your body with the towel).  If you elect to cover up the remaining rash on your wedding day use a seperate brush and make up compact for that area vs. the rest of your make up. After they’ve gone away (and they go away pretty fast usually) wash all linens and clothes that came in contact.  Trust me they’re pretty common.  You get them if you’ve had chicken pox and if you get them once you’re at more risk of getting them in the future.  Try not to stress out and don’t touch or scratch it!  It will be fine!  Breathe in and out and enjoy your day!  Can’t wait to see your beautiful pics!

@sarahbeth_:

I would start taking L-lysine which is an amino acid you can buy in pill or powder form at your local supplement store.  Its anti-viral so it can help heal and suppress any future outbreaks.

I was the opposite of you — I had a rash but it was not very apparent but I had very intense pain. So, my redness went away rather quickly but my pain persisted for another 3-4 weeks.

Mine left marks for a couple of months – not red and bumpy, but there was a bit of discoloration for awhile.  🙁  Can you look into getting a shrug or a cardigan, just in case?

@sarahbeth_:  They went away pretty slowly, but they were pretty much gone by the end of the week.  I’d post pictures, but mine sound waaay grosser than yours and the last thing I need is pictures of my scabby, shingly ass all over the internet 🙂

As long as they aren’t scabbing, I really wouldn’t worry about it.  3 weeks is so much time if they aren’t major wounds.

I must have been the only 9 year old EVER to get them. they were personally the worst pain for me ever in my life. I have awful scars on my back and under my arm from the blisters, I get asked about sometimes.

HOWEVER!!!!!!!!! My father gots shingles several years ago, on his SCALP and right over his eye!! We were so scared it would move lower down and damage his eyes! BUT— he never had ANY pain, and there is no marking left from the rash. So its basically a crazy weird disease, but my guess is that if you’ve gone multiple weeks you probably have a “lighter” case

@sarahbeth_:  I know a few people who got them very young.  For some reason I’ve been hearing this a lot more lately.  One of my co-workers had it on his neck.  We are the “Old” people at work because we’re in our 30s 😉  So I teased him that it was shingles.  He took me seriously, went to the doctor and sure enough, it was.  He stayed home for a few days & took the medication.  I saw him a week later and it already looked a lot better. Two weeks later it was almost gone & by 3 weeks I couldn’t see it at all.  I’m sure everyone’s results are different, but that was what I witnessed with him.  I hope it clears up for you soon!!
