Help me deal with this situation!
A friend just facebook messaged me to ask about my stash of maternity clothes. I guess she is pregnant and knows I have lots of cute maternity clothes lying around.
I don’t know this girl particularly well — we were kind of friends when DH and I first moved to this area, but over time she showed herself to be immature and not really someone we wanted to spend a lot of time with, so we distanced ourselves. I haven’t seen her in months.
I’m not willing to sell my clothes since both my sister and I plan on having more children in the near future. But I’m also not particularly keen on lending them, since I’m not close with this girl and if I don’t get them back, that is hundreds of dollars of clothing I’ll never see again.
How the hell do I gently inform her that she ain’t getting her mitts on my fancy preggo clothes??

@iarebridezilla: …tell her you just found our your house is infested with bed bugs…that should take care of it.

@Nona99: ha!! though to be honest, she probably wouldn’t even mind. She’s that kind of gal …

I would tell her your sister has dibs on them and leave it at that.

…or that your darling baby has terrible intestinal problems and all the clothes are ruined!
Or just be straight up and let her know you will be having more babies so you can’t loan them to her.

@iarebridezilla: I would just tell her you’re saving them for yourself or your sister.

Ah, thanks ladies! I’ll just tell her that as the collection is jointly owned by my sister and myself, and my sister should be needing them again soon, I don’t feel comfortable parting with them. Whew! The Bee to the rescue once again!

@iarebridezilla: Pukatronic! What kind of person isn’t just horrified at the thought of those abominable blood suckers….telling her your infested really should take care of two problems, it kills the clothes borrowing issue dead AND it keeps her from ever wanting to come to your house…but I made the mistake of assuming we were dealing with a normal person….oopsie!

@iarebridezilla: Sorry, my sister-in-law/friend/someone not you! is already borrowing them for their pregnancy.

@iarebridezilla: If you’re afraid she’ll ask to borrow them when you tell her you’re saving them for the next pregnancy, you could fib and tell her you’ve already lent them to someone.

@iarebridezilla: Tell her that you are not ready to part with them. Simple as that.

Who FB messages someone and asks for their clothing?!
Glad you got a good response, though!

@iarebridezilla: What’s so difficult about just being assertive?
“Sorry, I’m not lending out the clothes.”
You, in no way, owe her any sort of explanation whatsoever.

Sounds like a good reply! People are so weird…just asking for shit.
