@thehappiestbridetobe:  I went to a destination wedding in St. Lucia. My airfare from Ohio (layover in Atlanta) to St. Lucia was $800ish. We stayed on the windy/Atlantic side for 8 days and 7 nights. The room was split between 3 of us, but I think I paid $2500 for the all inclusive.

You’ve got a totally workable budget for St.Lucia.  I don’t know if you’ve started considering certain resorts yet, but just to give a general frame of reference you’d be able to do a entry level room at one of the Sandals resorts at or under budget if you’ll lean more towards the 7 nights rather than 10.  I actually lived in St.Lucia for a semester in college for an internship, so if you’re got any specific questions about the island, ask away! 🙂

I went to St. Lucia for my first anniversary. We only stayed 4 days and that was plenty. We stayed in Soufreire. The mosquitos were crazy- bit up from head to toe. Your budget is great for an AI. Lots of couples stayed at Sandals, but there are other more private AIs. Our plane tickets  were around $400 each. Must do- zip lining.

We went there for our honeymoon.  It cost like $5000 total.  We stayed at La Toc, and visited the other two resorts that are included in the package.  They were both nice.  I wasn’t too crazy about some of the restaurants.  And I just felt like the resorts do not look like they do in catalogues.  We did a few shopping excursions and a boat trip..and we saw the volcano.  The rum punch is the BEST!

The Sandals option of Stay at 1, Play at 3 is a good thought.  So if you’re concerned about budget you can always book the one that is getting you the best rate, but still take in the other ones.  One of my favorite excursions – day boat ride on the Brig Unicorn replicate tall ship.  You get to see the coast, drink as much rum punch as you want, visit the sulphur springs, see Soufreire, and go snorkeling.  Highlight of my trip!

@thehappiestbridetobe:  Personally I think St.Lucia can’t be beat 🙂 But you are so right.  There are tons of great options out there, and truthfully the Carribean islands are all so different, and of course Mexico too!  What you get for your money can go really far in Mexico.  They have beautiful beaches and water there so since you mentioned you’re really looking forward to relaxing and not being constantly on the go, it could get you a few extra nights for your budget there.  So many decisions! 🙂
