If you hadn't already ordered them, I'd say don't bother - but since you have them, you might as well use them... It would be a shame for them to go to waste.
If you already have them, then why not? I don't think there's any hard and fast rules about when you can send out STDs. We sent ours out in April, so about five months before our wedding, which most people would say is "behind" schedule. But we'd only set a date a few weeks before, and we wanted to do STDs, so we did! And our guests loved them!
Plus everyone always appreciates a heads up when it comes to a big event like a wedding. I know my parents have gotten invites to really important weddings without STDs, and they've either had to miss or massively shuffle around their schedules. So I think STDs are always appreciated!
@Ms Bookworm: Agreed. If they're already made, may as well throw them in the mail since it's a smallish wedding and your friends/fam already know. Just be sure to get your invites out shortly, because you'll need lead time for the RSVPs to come in and then at least a buffer week to call in the late replies before your numbers are due to your venues.

Hi Bees! I need help.... fiancé and I are getting married Feb 2012, and have only been engaged since June. I procrastinated and put off planning until a little over a month ago. With a little over 3 months ahead, I am worried that it is too late to send out STDs. I already have them made and could get them out tomorrow, but with invites going out in a month, is it necessary? I would love to send them out since I spent so much time and money on them, but I'm not sure. Our wedding is only 75 people with most being family who know about the date already. Any suggestions? Thank y'all!
