So, due to numerous breaches of contract (notgiving me a copy of renting lease, taking months to deposit rent, not fixing things like heat in the middle of winter in Utah, stuff like that), I have decided to terminate my contract early with my landlord. Because my housing is Approved off-campus housing for a university I can do this leagally. I sent my landlord and the housing authorities at school my 30 days notice. I just recieved a letter from my landlord stating that she’s talked to my school and “We need a copy of your deposit and April rent for now.” Can anyone tell me what a copy of my deposit means? I paid $185 in cash (now I know that was a bad idea) and have no copy saying I’ve paid. Should I just call the housing authority at school on Monday morning or does anyone have suggestions? She’s pretty dishonest person and so I really want to make sure I’m totally covered. I’m also wondering if I should mention to my school that she is being sued by our apartment complex for failing to pay HOA fees for the past 2-3 years? We had a legal assistant or someone stop by to ask a bunch of questions about them.
