Just a thought, a lot of bridesmaid dresses can be ordered in bridal colors like white, ivory, etc. so don't rule them out. They can be more simple and less flashy.
Thank Mrs. Davis- that was my thought. There are a few J.Crew bridesmaids dresses that I like, but they feel too dressy for me. I am afraid I will not feel comfortableand then just not have a good time.
It's your wedding- whatever you wear will be appropriate! It doesn't have to be white, or poofy, or even a dress at all. What do you wear when you want/need to be more dressed up?
I also normally dress casually and value comfort... my dress was blue, and wasn't really a dress (top+skirt). Best part is that I can wear it again =)
If it makes you feel any better, offbeat bride has all kinds of brides that are wearing all sorts of things, including brides in pants: http://offbeatbride.com/2007/09/brides-in-pants#referrer
Wear whatever makes you feel pretty and special =)
If the dresses at Jcrew are too formal you can always pair them with a wrap or cardigan to dress them down. And wear flats, not heels.
Another site that has some great dresses is www.shabbyapple.com
I always thought if I were going to do a courthouse wedding (and I'd SO still have a professional photographer) it would be cute to wear something "Stepford Wife" inspired. Knee length but poofy skirted, fitted-top, with a big bow on the back and a little pillbox hat. If that's not your taste, maybe a skinny white pencil skirt and a white button up tucked in with some SOOO fabulous shoes? Carry a simple bouquet to feel more "bride-like" maybe...
Add a bouquet and a little birdcage veil, and ANYTHING will look bride-like!
I love the very classic, 50's look of a nice, sharp suit. Pencil skirt, pants, whatever, any color will do. And like snmcdowell said, stick a birdcage veil on it and you're a bride!

Hello,
I am new to the board. My fiancé and I are getting married in a small ceremony in early October. We had originally planned to do a 150 people wedding, but decided midway through planning it was not for us. So thankfully I have not had much wedding stress until now. Our wedding is going to be very casual with our parents and siblings attending. We are going to be married outside the beautiful courthouse in the downtown area of our city. We are having a professional photographer, so I want to definitely look good.
My question is -what should I wear? The event does not require the usual full length wedding gown and I am not sure I even want to wear white. My style is preppy- think J. Crew and Banana Republic. I am a very casual girl and dresses are not my style, but this is a wedding, so I want to look appropriate.
Any thoughts on the subject would be great. I am really lost on this- I keep going back and fourth on what I want to wear. Thank you all very much for your time!
