I totally don’t have much of a clue with electronics. I do have an iPhone and love it. My son loves to play certain games (Math Ninja, etc…) and I wanted to get him something of his own (if there is such a thing) where he can just download a few games to play (not have his own phone, etc..). Is the iPod touch this item? And, what does all the stuff mean – 8GB, 16GB, 4th generation, etc…? I just want something simple. Thanks.

The iPod Touch was the device before the iPhone, so it is practically the same except without the phone capabilities.
The 8GB, 16GB, etc is the storage capacity of the device. The higher the number, the more songs, movies, games, etc you can store on the device. The generation is just the version of the device. It doesn’t mean a lot, but the newer generations (higher number) will have the most bells and whistles and be the highest priced.

I received a Kindle Fire for Christmas from my son and SOL and absolutely LOVE it!!! I’m an “internet information I need to know now” kinda person and because of this I have a laptop, an android phone (getting an iPhone in January) and now a Kindle. I’m not much of a game player but I’d definitely recomend reviewing the Kindle and see if it would suit your son’s needs. Usually before I buy anything costly I research and review what others have to say. While most people tend to post the negative there’s a lot of those that brag the positive.
8,16,32 or 64 GB is the amount of memory an electronic device holds. For me personally I don’t want something that’s not enough memory or much more than I need so I tend to fall somewhere in the middle.
I wouldn’t spend a lot of $$$, technology is always changing and the new greatest gadget you just bought is already outdated.

An iTouch is always a good choice but can be a bit pricey. My nephew has a Nintendo DS and LOVES it. Look around at prices before you buy, there are always deals for things like this. Also, get a iTouch you should check into getting a refurb. Better deal.

My 11 yo sister received an iPod Touch for Christmas and she loves it. My parents wanted her to have something for the apps that plays music and has a camera built in and this was perfect.

Thanks so much ladies. I will check all this out. Definitely will look into the kindle. But good to know your sister (beachbride) likes the iPod touch. We actually bought the DS last year and we liked it (ended up returning it…long story) but I really want him to paly more educational games, if that is possible. 🙂

@She-Hulk: I agree with PP. I would get him an iPod touch if you’re wanting to spend that much. I would probably do 16 gb, because I think 8 might not be enough, depending on how much music he has. You don’t say how old he is so 8 might be plenty if be isn’t very old and won’t have much for music, pictures, apps, etc. The people at apple can probably help you determine that!
