I need your help! Fiance and I are doing a rustic backyard wedding in July. We didn’t want to go for the traditional tuxes as our wedding will be a laid-back, fun party, reflecting our own personalities. Our guys are wearing dark gray vests and pants, purple ties and black Converse. My guy is wearing the same ensemble with a jacket (the whole three piece suit). (Attaching the inspiration pic).
The question is what do thet dads wear? They are both planning on wearing standard two-piece suits, but do they need to match the color? Can they wear black or navy? Do they match each other? Or do they match their wives (the moms)? Neither of the moms are wearing purple so I’m not sure that they should have purple ties? I’m completely lost. Please help.

Personally, I’d let them wear a full suit, just because they’re from the generation that expects to. I would also ask them to match your party, just because it creates a cohesiveness with pictures, boutineires and such. If they don’t want to or can’t afford to purchase/rent a suite of the grey colour, then I’d say black with maybe a grey vest and pocket square with the purple tie.
Chances are your moms will try to colour match as well. In fact, I’m taking the moms on the same day as my girls to pick out dresses, so we can find a style in the same colour family they can both be happy with.
Hope this helps.

We are having our dads rent suits with the rest of the wedding party. The suits are the same, the vests and ties are different. I would let your dad’s wear real, full suits though. Black suits with grey vests?

My Dad and my husbands Dad just wore whatever they wanted. Only their ties had to match our wedding colors. Of course, my father wore a purple bowtie. I am still rolling my eyes, but at least my mother thought it was sweet.

Thanks laides. Macy’s ended up having a huge sale this weekend so the dads got full three piece suits that are the same cut as the groomsen. FOG is wearing the same color as the groosmen and FOB is wearing black… and they’re obviously wearing normal shoes, not Converse. So excited to cross this off the list 🙂
