yeah, they’re finger waves. and your curls will work in your/your hair stylist’s favor because your hair will be molded into that S shape.

i’m a cosmetologist and fingerwaves were/are basically our worst nightmare. they’re the hardest thing to learn.

+1 on finger waves.  I’m not sure about your other question.  Might have to straighten your hair and then wave it?

@MsquareM: i don’t think it will be too much at all. if you wanted a more relaxed wave, there are couple ways to do it- your hair can be set in the traditional wave (like the pics in your original post) and then combed out or they can straighten your hair and then use a curling iron to wave it. with your hair it makes more sense to me to do it the first way, but everyone works differently.

and i don’t know about other states/countries, but in california, all licensed cosmetologists have to learn and perfect the finger wave in order to pass the state board exam, so every stylist knows how to do them, but they can be easy to forget if you don’t do them regularly.

like any other style, just try out different stylists until you find someone you like 🙂

Here is a pic of Tyra Banks in finger waves.

I couldn’t find a pic of Michelle Obama in this style, but I did find this one, and I think it’s beautiful:

@MsquareM:  I think that you’d have to straighten your hair first. Your stylist would then have to wave your hair with the curling iron. Traditional finger waves are done while the hair is wet and I’m not sure that’ll work with your curls.

I LOVE your curls btw!!

@MsquareM:  Here’s another of Tyra that I love.  It seem like it’ll be a little less complicated

@MsquareM:  you might consider checking out cosmetology schools in your area. i know when i was in school everyone was always doing fingerwaves so they could have them down perfectly for state board, so you might have good luck there 🙂
