H! I went to Sabrina Ann in Ardmore, PA. It is a second hand bridal shop but I got a very beautiful dress for more then 50% off the orginal cost. They people there are wonderful too!!! Very friendly but you realy need to make an appointment. GOod Luck
I went to Toast bridal, in Willow Grove. The consultant was very helpful, but did not offer any discount or other incentive for getting the bridesmaids dresses there (we were ordering 6 dresses), so we ordered the BM dresses elsewhere. I really liked my gown though. Overall the shop is nice - but very small. Also, they cannot accomodate more than 1 bride at a time, so make sure you call first to schedule an appointment.
I had a great experience at Priscilla of Boston in Ardmore (Suburban Square). Alterations will be done outside of the salon. You save 15% on BM gowns if you buy your gown there; also a discount on any occasion dress you may purchase.
Also visited the old Sukie's (now Bijou Bridal) which is a block away from PoB and a handful of Delaware salons.
Im from right outside of philly and I went to Fantasia in Wilmington, DE. They are so nice and helpful there! Not to mention really reasonably priced!
P.S. I'm a December bride too! :)
I can highly recommend Irini's Originals in Wilmington, DE. I went to a lot of bridal stores in my search in the tri-state area and this was by the one that was the most accomodating and helpful. (not to mention tax free!) It is run by a Greek women and her daughter and they are both great! My dress just came in and I just got my first fitting but overall so far the experience has been wonderful!
You may want to check out Rowans in PA-I ordered my MOB gown from their on-line store-www.keepmeinstitches.biz. I was extremely happy with it. It is very well made. At least their online prices are AMAZING too. :)
I went to Bridal Sophisticate in Media, PA. I tried a few other places but I really loved the selection at Bridal Sophisticate and they were much more professional than the other places I checked out!
Thanks for all the feedback ladies!!! i actually tried my first dresses on today at the salon Stella Maris in Holmes, PA. they were the only people around the tri-state area that still carried my top choice dress and it was a pretty good experience so I feel a little better...im going to Coronet Bridal in Feasterville and Ashley's Bridal in Horsham next Friday to compare and see more before I decide if my favorite is really THE ONE. Although I have to say that at this point in the game, dress shopping felt very strange. lol I guess I'm just not "there" yet.
I went to Priscilla of Boston in Ardmore - they are great. I went to a bunch of other places but I fell in love with my Melissa Sweet. Good luck!
Three cheers for Stella Maris! I bought my dress there and had a really wonderful experience.
Here are my notes from dress shopping:
Irma's Bridal
1990 Route 70 East 1B, Cherry Hill, NJ 08003
Phone: (856) 424-1710
This shop was excellent with a lot of dresses. They don't take appointments on Friday, so that can be hit or miss, but if you get there early to put your name on the list first you will basically have the run of the shop. Consultants are very nice and helpful. My consultant made a phone call to the designer on the spot to see if a dress I liked could be done in a different color. Massive selection, wide range of prices and sizes.
Harleysville Bridal
414 Main Street, Harleysville, PA 19438
Phone: (215) 256-1176
Not a good experience for me at this store. One of the consultants/owners has a tad bit of crazy running through her blood and made me uncomfortable. Really trying to make a sale, felt very pushy. Shop is small with very few options. They may have JUST what you are looking for but gave me a bad vibe and only 3 dresses to try on.
Coronet Bridal
205 West Street Road, Feasterville, PA 19053
Phone: (215) 357-4696
Massive store with an excellent selection of styles, sizes and prices. They have some sale dresses, discounted dresses and a whole host of BM dresses to choose from as well. You can scour the racks on your own if you want and they will also help you. You can try on as many dresses as you want within your appointment window, which is 2 hours. You get your own private room for those 2 hours with your guests inside the room along with you and the consultant. Very comfortable setting. I ended up buying my dress here!!
Flat fee for alterations, adjustments, 3 fittings, steaming/pressing and an opaque travel bag.
Belle of the Ball Bridal and Formal Wear
2837 Ridge Pike, Norristown, PA 19403
Phone: (610) 630-3979
This shop was just okay. Small and a little dark/dingy. They had an okay selection of dresses. Nothing Maggie if you are looking for her. They have a wide range of sizes up to 32. Prices are reasonable. No in house seamstress. I initially ordered a dress here and they called a few weeks later to say they couldn't get it. I gave up on this shop after that.
Baranette's Bridal Shoppe
120 N York Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090
Phone: (215) 659-1176
I would never go here again. The people were so pushy and did not listen to a thing I said. Very uncomfortable experience. And they practically forced me to try on 3 more dresses after I said I really wanted to leave.
I went to 3 shops. Here are my reviews...
Priscilla of Boston in Ardmore- Loved my experience there. BJ was a joy to work with. Very friendly, knew her stuff, and most importantly she listened!!!! I had every intention of going back and purchasing my dress there, until I found THE DRESS at another shop.
Baranette's Bridal in Abington/Willow Grove- What a let down from Priscilla. Their selection is rather limited and nothing really in my style. I hate when small fitting rooms with just curtains are used, I can't tell you how many people ended up seeing me in my underwear. UGH!!! My bridal consultant Liz was very nice and patient though.
L&H Bridal in the Northeast- My experience did not start out that great. They were 15 min late in taking me, which no big deal but I was last appointment of the night and I had my 88 year old Grandmom with me. Next up the bridal consultant came off as a little rude. But the more I worked with her, the more I warmed up to her. She must be doing this for 20 years or so, so she knows what she's doing and likes things a certain way. Afterall she found me my dress!!!
But the service and overall vibe of Priscialla of Boston just couldn't be beat.
Bijou Bridal was amazing! I tried on upwards of 50 dresses and couldn't connect with ANY bridal consultants. Finally I came to Katie at Bijou in Ardmore and she was amazing! She totally went above and beyond. She even emailed me an update on my dress.
When my mom came to see my dress, she created the extra details that I wanted to add out of tissue paper! She had them prepped and ready so that we could make the final decision.
After I purchased my dress and had a meltdown about the length, she even graciously invited me back in to try on the gown with shoes and meet with the seamstress. The staff at Bijou Bridal are truly the best that I came across in the bridal bizz! Not only are they nice and helpful, they are actually caring and patient (extremely hard to find).
I really feel like that psycho on SYTTD now who goes and visits the salon every couple of weeks. I just really loved them all! It has become a very different experience from the dreaded gown shopping that I had been doing over the past year.
Best of luck!!
I got my dress at Bijou Bridal in Ardmore. I actually went this past sunday. I loved it!! and best of all they had the dress I wanted and it look gorgeous on me!! I totally recommend them.
I would steer clear of Irinis. Something is not right over there. With a wedding shop on every corner, I could not believe the way we were treated at Irinis. The sales woman and seamstress treated my entire wedding party and especially my mother poorly. I am 2 weeks from my wedding and have no dress or veil. They lied and failed to deliver what they promised. I would highly recommend that you go elsewhere even if the sales woman tries to work you a deal. She is dishonest. Why trust someone so untrustworthy with your wedding dress?
Also Sadie's Bridal in Bensalem is nice; the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful!!
I would still recommend Irini's despite NN1276's review...I have had two fittings since my last review and I still think they do an awesome job. They had to completely alter my neckline into a sweetheart which included removing all the beading and placing it back on and did a great job. The hemming was spot on and they did a great job with the bustle. Also Niki, the owner, is helpful and always willing to accomodate.
@rachaelrobin: Toast Bridal discounts all their bridesmaid dresses already. All the pricing is available to view at their online store that will show you the original prices: www.toastbridalonline.com
I went to Stella Maris in Holmes, PA first and didn't like the experience. I took a pic of what I was looking for and she showed me samples that were close, but not what I wanted. The people were nice, but were pushy. I ended up purchasing my dress from Claire's Fashions in Delaware. They had a good selection and were nice people to deal with.
i went to yestothedress in huntingdon valley, Madison is DA BEST!!!!!!!!!!!
I went to Forever Formals in Kennett Square. They had a 40% off sale and I got a great deal. They are really nice there and maybe a little nutty, but if you like nice and nutty their prices were good.
Bridal Garden, Marlton NJ. I had a good experience. I also went there a year ago with a friend who got married in 2011. She had a good experience.

So I'm about to start dress shopping for my December wedding and after reading some of the god awful reviews online for just about every local area bridal shop I'm terrified to go anywhere!!! And if I do find a dress I love do I take a chance on alterations at a place that has been called a "chop shop" by some brides but great from others??? Tell me some of your good and not so good experiences from where you tried on or bought your dress and issues or praises for alterations. Thanks in advance ladies!!!
