I think it is all adorable. Whatever you come up with!
What about the cookies could have your wedding date on them! Would be pretty cool on your STD pics
This is an awesome idea! If you google "baking engagement pics" a bunch of results come up, but this is my favorite: http://junebugweddings.com/blogs/what_junebug_loves/archive/2010/09/14/kitchen-baking-engagement-photo-shoot.aspx
Maybe you'd want to do cooking-show style and have some pre-baked cookies or pre-chilled dough, but also make the dough during the shoot (that egg crack picture is incredible). Also, it might be a good idea to practice before your photographer is there, so you're comfortable with the steps of the recipe and know about how long things take. Plus, you could send your photographer home with the extra cookies - who doesn't love that?
@MrsNeutrino: I thought of that, too, but unfortunately, the kit doesn't contain numbers (only letters)! That would be so cute, though, right?
Thanks for the feedback so far, ladies! I am super excited about it & you are all making me even more excited. I think it will be really fun to just hang out & have a good time without any pressure of all this "posing" business. I mean, I'm sure we'll have some posed shots, but I loooove candids.
Of course this means we have to majorly deep clean our kitchen & scrub the stove down before the shoot, which I HATE doing...
@animalcrackers: Oh, damn, here I thought I was being all original with my idea!
That is an ADORABLE shoot. Thank you for posting it! Ahhh, I can't wait.
Definitely good advice to practice beforehand. I also plan on having some pre-made dough/cookies, like you suggested, in case it flops the day of & our cookies turn out terribly!
Hey!! We actually did a portion of our e-pics at home too! We decorated cupcakes in our kitchen, took some of us just hanging out on the couch and then headed into the downtown area of our town. It was so fun and personal and we LOVED it! If you are going to cook I highly recommend a fun apron, picking mine out was one of my favorite parts :) Here are some of ours for inspiration! I also started a thread before we did ours, here it is in case you want to take a peek!
Some other ones in the kitchen that she got but I don't have saved on this computer were ones of him tying on my apron, some of us sitting on the floor beneath the oven holding our platter of cupcakes, one of him picking me up and twirling me in the kitchen, etc. It was so fun!!

Oh I forgot that I made a post with some e-pics! This post has more in the kitchen ones too. http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/engagement-pictures-20
Just wanted to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE your idea. We are doing the exact same for the opening of our Wedding Photos... in that we are re-enacting the moments of our first date.... me coming down the stairs, him waiting outside the door, me opening the door, the look on his face at seeing me... etc, etc :)
@Running Elley: Thank you so much! Your photos are GREAT! So cute & personal.
It's hilarious that you mention the apron thing because I currently have Etsy open in another tab, where I am shopping for a new apron! I love pinup style aprons, and this is a great excuse to buy another.
how long do you have with your photog? unlimited? 5 hours? 2 hours? it really sounds like you'll need a lot of time for what you have planned. cookies are kind of flat, i instantly thought of Running Elley whenever you posted about this because cupcakes have more dimension. if you like to cook together (but don't bake) you could always be like dicing veggies and stuff (piles of veggies in a heart shape), maybe making a soup or even better, chicken pot pie. then you get yummy flakey crust pictures and can make a heart out of dough and use the letter cutters the same way as you planned with a cookie. i would suggest though already having the pie made and in the oven and just faux cooking to save time. you don't want to be worrying about something burning in the 40 minutes that you're taking other pictures while waiting for it to cook.
@elliestan: We have a few hours with our photog. There isn't a strict time limit (more of a "this is what we're doing & I'll stay until we're done" sort of thing), but of course it isn't an all day event. I am definitely not planning on ALL the ideas I mentioned; we're cooking at home for sure, but the things I listed after that were just the possibilities. We'll probably pick just one, depending on the ideas the photographer has!
I really love the pot pie idea... And you're right - we could still use our cookie cutter to shape the top of the crust. Pot pie is actually one of my favorite foods, too! We'd def have a pie pre-made (just as we would with cookies) for the sake of time.
@Ms Bookworm: okay, nice! i was worried because i know for my e-pics we went to 3 locations and it took 5-6 hours! it was pretty insane and we were lucky to have an awesome photog.
i really love the pot pie idea, so i hope you use it! then you don't even have to worry about coming up with other love slogans. and if you give it an eggwash before you bake it? mmm! golden flakey lovey goodness! and since it's actually a meal (that you like!) it's not as feminine as cookies. FH wielding a butcher knife is more manly looking than cookie baking ;]
@elliestan:That pot pie idea is a really good one!!! I think that would make for some gorgeous pictures!!!!
I'd pre-make as much as you can. I pre-made our cupcakes and frosting and we still took a little over 4 hours with our photog! Of course that included our downtown pictures too but you definitely want to have the time. You can even pre-cut the veggies and still pose with a cutting board/knife, etc. to save time.
Thanks again for all of your input!! Our shoot is scheduled for tomorrow & I'm SO EXCITED. I bought a cute new pinup-style apron (like I needed an excuse...), and I am premaking a pot pie tonight so we can "faux cook" tomorrow to save time. Hoping for nice weather so we can take our pie on a picnic!
I will post the photos when we get them back. Yay!
Just wanted to let you guys know that we got our pics back, in case any of you wanted to see! I started a new post here to share them.
Thanks again for all the help & suggestions! We made a pot pie, and it turned out great! I love how it looks in the photos, and I got to use my cookie stamper in the crust.

Hi bees!
My fiance & I are having our engagement photos taken next week. (So excited!!) Our "concept" is a day in the life sort of thing, as we want to feel very natural, and just have our photographer hang out with us & capture us doing things we normally do. We cook together a lot, so we are planning on starting at our apartment where we will cook something, then (weather pending) perhaps go on a picnic (which is where FI proposed), then maybe walk around our neighborhood, go to a wine bar, go out for coffee, etc.
Anyway, I am not sure what we are going to cook yet, but one thing I thought of was baking cookies, as that would be fun & fairly non-messy (no splattering grease!
). I have this Message in a Cookie kit, where you can arrange letters to put phrases on a cookie cutter, which then stamps into the cookie. I put our names on the heart-shaped cutout (like the example pictured below), but I'm not sure what to put on the others... I was thinking perhaps "LOVE IS SWEET," but I feel like maybe that's kind of corny... Any ideas?!
An additional question I have is whether or not using the cookies is a dorky idea... Is it too feminine? My FI & I love to cook together (which is why we thought of this idea), but we don't typically bake together. I just thought cookies would be easy, and we could have some dough made ahead of time so our photographer isn't having to photograph us cook a whole dish from start to finish, you know?
Thoughts? Thank you!
