I love gold! It should go great with a rustic fall wedding. How about some rich earth tones like a deep green or a burgundy or deep orange.
I think you are off to a great start!!
Thanks! I really want to go with gold linens and then maybe dark brown napkins but am a little worried some of the gold tablecloths look too spandex-shiny-stripper-gold and not classy.
@AutumnElegance: lol stripper spandex :)
Have you found any gold tablecloths on browsing? Just to get an idea?
Yeah this is one I love, I just have to find out if our caterer can do it. These linens might be more champagne than gold, not sure? But in general I like pintuck. And then need to decide if brown chair sashes or gold would go best with white chair covers.
Could you maybe try some fabric that has gold threading in it? That way it would be subtle? Or maybe some burlap runners with gold trim?
Check out this site: http://www.theperfectpalette.com/
On the left hand side of the blog there are dots of basically every color and they show you all of the palette posts that have whatever color you choose in it. So you could search all posts with gold, beige, or white and see inspiration boards that have one of those colors in it. I've toootally fallen in love with that site!
Also, gold really goes well with all those natural colors. It's like a fun punch of sunshine or when the leaves turn gold like right now. I like the idea of predominantly white/birch/beige(?) with pops of gold in things like chargers, napkins, candlesticks, etc. You could even do something like this but with gold ribbon and white flowers hanging from the ceiling
What do your chairs look like? Perhaps you don't even need chair covers.
When you use white chair covers the eye tends to see the sea of white, not the gold tablecloths.
You could use bronze as your accent rather than brown. It is a little less stark and would look
great with the birch and a champagne cloth.
Ooh, thanks for the pictures of birch and brown. Unfortunately FH is totally set on the chair covers; I really could do without them. One wedding we went to had them and he thinks they're totally elegant. I can't convince him otherwise. He has opinions on so few things in the wedding that I'm letting him get his way here. But that's why I want some color. I hate the "sea of white" feeling.
I'm definitely leaning toward champages/browns/golds.
Um, and LaurenKK, http://www.theperfectpalette.com/ is amaaaazing. Thanks!
Aaand now my other new favorite website is the Interactive Design Center at clothconnection.com. Lets you make a mockup of any table setting color combination and made me feel much better about brown+gold+birch. Pasted some into a photo of my venue with my bridesmaids colors too :) I think it will work...

I would stick with a few touches - maybe gold chiavari chairs, gold chargers, gold candlesticks, etc.
Hmm... you think brown linens with the gold touches? Unfortunately my FH likes chair covers better than chivari chairs (crazy, I know!) and so I've told him we will do chair covers. And my caterer only has white or ivory chair covers.
I thought about it more and I'm leaning more now toward dark gray and some touches of gold. Like this (but with white chair covers and gray sashes). I guess the all-gold look would be too much with the already gold-ish tone of the venue wood walls.

Our colors were chocolate brown, ivory, gold and plum. The plum was just an accent color mostly because the girls did not want to wear brown and we needed a color for the them and the men's ties and pocket squares. Our table linens were chocolate brown taffeta pintuck and we had ivory hydrangeas for our centerpieces, with brown fiddleheads. We also had gold mercury glass votive holders on the tables and since the taffeta has a sheen to it, it picked up the gold nicely.
I was able to purchase some linens from BBJ Linen's online webstore, and they were chocolate taffeta crush. We used these for outdoor tables and I found some golden-hued hurricaine lanterns from Michael's. I loved how they came out.
I don't have pro pics yet to show you, but here are some pics that might show some of our decor. I think for your venue, you have to stay away from gold linens or it will wash out the room. You need contrast. I would personally go with the chocolate linens or an ivory. I will note that the tables look much more "flat" in these pictures than they did in person. I'm sure the pro pics will be beter when we get them. We were in the mountains of Maine and started out wanting a "rustic elegance" feel but mostly ended up towards the elegant end of that spectrum. It's just more who we were. I hope this helps give you some ideas. Good luck!

Thanks! I like the plum a lot! I'll have to keep an eye out for your pro pics when you post them-- your venue looks similar to mine.

Hi! New bee here, trying to figure out the color scheme for my Sept. 2012 wedding. We're getting married at a lodge in Maryland (picture of another wedding here: http://ayeshaahmadphotography.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/RachelReedBlog014.jpg) and decided early on that we wanted birch vases and candle holders. We will also have, for sure, white chair covers, white birch napkin rings, and white flowers (FH is set on the white flowers for some reason). So I'm trying to get color into the scheme through sashes, linens, napkins, maybe plate chargers (I'd prefer to avoid paying for those though).
I've become enamored with gold, but can't figure out how to integrate it all with the birch and the rustic them. Whether to bring in some brown as well, or silver? And whether to do lots of gold-- linens, chair sashes, chargers-- or just a few touches of it and leave everything else white.
Help! Any ideas or inspiration? Or does gold not go at all with my venue and the birch?
