I am getting married sometime next spring in Dallas and I could use some reccommendations for a reception venue. The ceremony is going to be at the Cathedral downtown, so I would need it to be something fairly close to downtown. What I’m really hoping for is something that has both indoor and outdoor space. I want dinner and dancing inside and lawn games and mingling outside. It’s going to be fairly large, 300-400 people. Anyone have any ideas?

@tomavieve2014: I’m having my reception at Old Red Museum in Dealy Plaza. It’s a gorgeous space with views of down town. Fairly cost effective too, however they only include the space and table/chairs. Everything else you have to source yourself.
Good luck on your search!
ETA: sorry, just saw you wanted indoor/outdoor. Old Red wouldn’t be your place then. If you change your mind about having an outdoor venue, then check it out.
Also – check out Dallas Arboretum. They have event halls plus outdoor areas. Not sure how far it is though from the Cathedral. Worth checking out though.

Arboretum is the only thing I can think of that can hold that capacity with both indoor/outdoor sections, it’d be a drive though.
I’d suggest my venue, but it doesn’t really have the outdoor part. It holds up to 300 I think in the ballroom – Scottish Rite Library & Museum. Beautiful place.
There’s also the Dallas Infomart. Kinda crappy name, but absolutely beautiful inside with an atrium and huge fountain and they can hold I think well over 1000 guests. But again, no outdoor part. Man that one is a tough one.
The Hall of State at Fair Park is beautiful as well. There’s an outdoor area, but I’m not sure about the regulations are of how to utilize the space and what you can do with it.

My friend had his reception at the Texas Discovery Gardens at Fair Park. It has indoor space (a big, “Grand Hall” for dining) and a lot outdoor space with much to explore. Very nice! Not sure about the cost, though.
Aha, pricing info: http://texasdiscoverygardens.org/rentals_and_weddings.php

Have you tried the Dallas Museum of Art?
