Hey bees, I hope you can give me some advice on the wedding day timeline.
Hair and makeup will be done at the hotel for myself, my 1 bridesmaid, mother and FMIL.
Our ceremony is at 4pm and I’m allowing 30mins travel time from the hotel to the venue. We are having 2 cars, which will take FI & GM plus FFIL & FMIL to the venue at 2:30pm, then come back to pick up me and my Dad, plus BM & Mum at 3:30pm.
The hair and makeup stylist originally said 10am start, but now is saying that to be done by 2:30pm for me to get dressed, we would need a 9am start (starting with setting my hair, then finishing the hair after my makeup which is scheduled last).
So I guess my questions are:
- With 1 hair&makeup stylist for 4 people (3 with short hair), is 9am a realistic start time? I am having a curled updo. (FYI: my hair and makeup trial took 3 hours which is what they said to allow, so they were right on that one).
- Is 1 hour (2:30-3:30pm) the right amount of time to get dressed?
- Do they have to set my hair first, or can they start with someone else? I get headaches and want to be able to lie down sometime during the morning without worrying about my hair.

I would definitely allow more time than you think, everything on my wedding day took way longer than expected and I was happy we over-budgeted time when we were running late to the church (got there just in time).

Katepants: Do you think that’s the right amount of time then?

It really depends on how much time your other 3 people need for both hair and makeup. It seems that with that many people she should have an assistant?
I’m an over-planner and look at this mathematically:
9am – 2:30pm = 5.5 hrs
5.5 hrs – 3 hrs for you = 2.5 hrs for 3 other people’s hair and makeup
2.5 hrs/ 3 = 50 minutes for each person
this is all without wiggle room and assuming everything goes as planned and people don’t want things changed on the day-of.
I too had a long trial ~3 hrs and on the day my hair didn’t turn out exactly right as she was doing it so she had to redo some sections (had updo with 2 french braids on the sides) so it took even longer than the trial, so I personally would ask for more time – even a half hour or for her to have an assistant for part of the time? You would know yourself and your family better, perhaps they are less picky and won’t require as much attention.
