Hi I need help! I have been lucky enough to WIN my 3 bridesmaids dresses from a store called Blush Bridal – yay! Now I have to quickly decide which style number I would like.
The girls in the bridal party have very different body types – 1 is short and a big bigger, 1 is going to have a 1 month old baby but is otherwise pretty petite except possibly in the boobs and stomach after the baby, and 1 girl is very tall and slim!
Since my wedding is in the summer, I was thinking of having short, grey dresses – but Jim Hjelm also has some very lovely long dresses so I could be persauded otherwise!
I have asked the girls if they would like to order all the same dress in grey, or if they would like to choose their own style, as I don’t really care, and so far no real answers from them. They all live in another province, so it is impossible for them to try on the dresses with me – I will be going in myself to try them on Thursday and then will just be giving the bridal salon each girls measurements.
SO 2 questions:
1. anyone have any favorite style of Jim Hjelm that they love for their maids? If so, PLEASE post pictures along with style #!
2. DO you guys think it would look better to have each maid have a different style in the same color grey to suit their own bodies? But they would have to order their own style of dress by picking online without trying on?
Or should I just get the same dress for all the maids after I have tried it on to make sure it looks good, even though they have different body types just hope the sizing works for each one? If I go this route I will prb just get a strapless, empire waist dress like this:
or a long one like this:

Of the two you posted, I like the first one better. Chiffon tends to be really flattering on all body types. Is there any way the girls can try on his dresses at another store? I think it’d be incredibly difficult to pick and choose without seeing it on them.

Depending on how “busty” your one friend is, I don’t think either of those dresses will work for her. The second would be impossible to wear a bra with and won’t give any support. The first dress, depending on the fit may provide more support but she may be too self-conscious to wear a short dress and one that might be a little clingy where she doesn’t want it to be (mid-section). I would suggest going long dresses for them but provide something with more support in the chest area. I think if you did the short dress in a long version would be okay, as long as the fabric is flowly enough around the mid-section to hide any problem areas. You could also look to see if they have any layerd options in the long gowns that would provide a little extra coverage in the problem area.
Style jh5311 would be a good choice for both things i’m talking about
Style jh5318 would be okay too, if you and your BM’s are okay with that deep a V.

@reebs83: gorgeous choices! I love the look of that first one, Style jh5311 – however I don’t think it comes in a light grey:( I will check it out though, thanks!
@madteaparty: I know, I wish they could try them on, but they all live in Nova Scotia – which is like a $1000, 7-10 hour plane ride to Vancouver where I am – and there is NOT ONE! store which carries Jim Hjelm in NS! Originally I told them they could just get whatever dresses they wanted that they could then wear again by any designer they wished as long as they were light grey. Since I won the dresses by this designer, I can’t switch designers either to one that would be easier for them to try on. SOOOOO we are going to do the best we can:P

I am using Jim Hjelm for my BM dresses too! I have 6 girls who are all thin, but still have very different body types . I picked my 4 favorite dresses and am letting the girls choose from those. They will all be the same length and ordered from the same dye lot so the same color. Then, they can all feel comfortable and happy in something they like (which means less stress for me on the day of)

@AlmostMrsGonzalez: can you post or pm me the styles you picked? thanks!

I love those Jim Hjelm bridesmaids dresses. However, I think you need to see how they look on the bridesmaids. The second one you posted might not flatter busty girls.

Congrats! I’m from BC too. Lucky girl!
I personally like the first dress better. It’s a classic and simple but pretty silhouette and it’s more rewearable. I think if you let the girls pick their own style of dress, they should all at least be the same length. Either all long, or all short. I don’t know how warm it gets in Nova Scotia during the summer but for my bridesmaids, I’m opting for short dresses because I think it could still get hot with long dresses, even if they were made of chiffon.

Well I am going tomorrow to try some on and take pics to send to the girls to decide on!! Any other favourite styles you think I should try or anything on the Jim Hjelm website that you think may be universally flattering and still cute a summer wedding at 5pm near the beach in NS? Advice appreciated!:)

Just pick what you want deeply in your heart.

I think it is narrowed down to between this one
in shimmer (grey) or possibly coral
or this one
in either silver (grey), candlelight (sort of a taupey grey) OR guava or flame!
They didn’t have any dresses with the actual colors I want in the store unfortunately:(

@llgraham: You could not go wrong with either dress. I like the long dress and little better than the short one tho!

Both are pretty but I personnally like the second choice better. I got my 4 girls wearing Jim Hjelm too in navy blue. Thought I’d post it for you as another consideration. Its also chiffon and looks great on assorted body types. My girls range in sizes, two girls thin and 2 plus size and it looks very flattering on them all.
