What will his groomsmen be wearing?
Based on the uniform, red and blue are the obvious choices, but you could also go with gold/yellow/orange or purple. I'm not sure sage or coral will work.
I would say if your groomsmen are in tuxes or suits (maybe navy suits would look nice) then get creative and see what works well with navy. I'm not very good at it myself, but maybe orange, bright pink, etc. I'd say go with something complimentary, not matching, especially if the groomsmen are also servicemen and in uniform -- otherwise you will have a sea of Marine blue!
Orange is a complimentary color to blue, but I don't think coral would look too too bad. I'd really have to see swatches of the colors together. I don't think sage green would look too keen though. Have you thought about having the girls wear some shade of blue too?
Are the other men in the wedding party military? If not, black will look just fine with sage on the women. The dress blues are a very dark Navy, which can almost pass as black. They could wear the Alpha's (olive) and the women could wear the sage, but personally I think that's way too much green.
I'm assuming you're wedding colors are (or you want them to be) sage green and coral. I agree that either of those colors are going to clash with the uniform. But both of those colors look great with navy, so why don't you add navy to the mix? The girls can wear navy dresses and the bridal party will look great all together and then everything else can be sage and coral, maybe with a little navy thrown in to carry it through the theme.
Hey girls,
My FH will prob be the only one in uniform. I don't necessarily want green AND coral - just one or the other . . . Also, I misspoke--"sage" green wasn't the right color to describe it - probably more like a kelly green. See link from David's Bridal: http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_bycolor_detail.jsp?stid=3715&sid=24363&cfid=5 (make sure that you click the "olivine" color.
Navy is a good idea. I guess I've always had the idea of a brighter wedding since it will be in the summer. What do you think about the "olivine" color from David's Bridal with the navy?
Take a look at this webpage to get some ideas of a Marine Corps wedding: http://daniphaneuf.blogspot.com/2008/08/wedding-heather-and-randall.html
Thanks for all of your help!
I was originally thinking put everyone in navy with coral or green accents and then the rest of your decorations could have navy accents, but that olivine would also look great. It looks like you've got a good idea of what goes well together. I'd say go with what you like.
I love the idea of sage green. I don't think it would clash at all... that's my opinion though :)
What I've been told by previous military brides, and from what I've read on the 'net, it is advised that you choose whatever color you want. Basically, don't worry about clashing, because the uniform looks good with anything by sheer virtue of it being a uniform. It's more symbolic than a tux and therefore transcends color schemes.
Actually, that pink wedding was gorgeous, even though the bridesmaids didn't necessarily match the uniforms. The serious, formal uniform seemed to compliment the bright and cheery pink, and allowed everyone to show off their own personality. It looked like a very happy event :-D
Also keep in mind that traditionally, military weddings use the red, white, and blue color scheme for decor, if you are interested in those colors. *Shrug... I'm slightly non-traditional, so I'm going navy and orange, neither of which really go with the Army dress blues... and! we have a beach theme, instead of a patriotic theme :-/
A friend of mine is going with black and gold and it'll look really elegant. You could also bring in those colors you want, like green, with ribbons and flowers!
hi! my fiancee is in the marines and wants to wear his uniform too! i'm actually going with like navy blue and a steel gray, but having an orange red as the pop color. the dresses are a really dark navy (almost black like the top of his uniform) and the suits are gonna be the gray. all the accents and flowers will be the orange/reddish color.
dunno!
Hey hun! My fiancee just got out of the marines not too long ago and I had gone through this exact same thing in my head a MILLION times! lol. We decided to wait till after he got out to get married and he won't be wearing his uniform (he's a police officer now)
But...if you want to go with coral, GO FOR IT! I have a pic of us at the ball a few years ago and I'm wearing a coral dress and I thought it looked really good together! I think the coral looked really fresh next to the blue! It brightens up their dark uniforms :)
I'm going to try to post the pic...but I'm not exactly sure how to do it...so we will see how it works! lol.
Good luck and Semper Fi! :)
How about light pink and navy. Thus you pick up the navy in the uniform but it won't clash. It would be lovely for a summer wedding.
I'm thinking of doing light, light, light, pale pink and brown for my wedding. FI is in the Air Force and will wear his Mess Dress (very similar navy color like the Marines).

Hello girls!
My FH is in the Marine Corps Reserves and wants to be married in his uniform. I want to have sage green OR coral dresses for my bridesmaids.
But - I don't want it to clash with his uniform: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:PlateIII_Officer_Dress_Uniform.jpg
Any thoughts? A lot of websites advise red dresses, but I don't want a red color scheme . . .
Thanks for any thoughts!
