FI and I have settled on a name for our little one and have an idea on what we would like to call her for a nick name. Her first name is going to be Isabel. FI and I are wanting to call her Bel (sounds like bell/belle) I wasnt sure if we should spell it Bel or if we should convert it to Belle. What do you think?

I would say belle because it looks nicer and more feminine. 🙂

@mojoh: I love the name Isabel and think Belle looks prettier:)

Belle! That’s what I’ve always dreamed of calling one of my imaginary future children with the name Isabel or Annabelle.

@mojoh: I like Belle but I also like Izzy like you had mentioned before 😉

@Izzy81: I am sure my mom is still going to call her Izzy This might just be the name only FI and I call her. The rest of the fam has aleady started calling her Izzy.

My friend calls her Isabel Izzy. It’s really cute.

Have you considered “Abe”?

I voted for Belle (although I also know an Izzy.)

I want to name my LO Isabella if it’s a girl and call her Izzy 🙂 I personally like Belle better than Bel

I love either of them. There would be a lot more personalized stuff (those pens and keychains, haha) with Belle, probably. Not that that is really that important, but it’s something to consider! 🙂

Why not just name her Belle intead of automatically shortening it? I purposely named my kids names that wouldn’t get nicknamed, and people did it anyway.
I really don’t understand the logic of anticipating a nickname, let alone plan for one, when you could just as easily name them the version you like instead.

Love Izzy for Isabel best but for sure Belle not Bel.

If her name is Isabel, I would chose the nickname Bel. It makes more sense.

I’d go with Belle. It looks more complete somehow. Also, if she chooses to go by this nickname, every new person she meets will spell it Belle and life will be simpler in some small, but material way if she isn’t constantly correcting people or trying to ignore the errors.
