Definitely, you could fill the vases with marbles, pearls, sand, rocks, coffee beans, water and use floating candles, etc. You can also put ribbon or other embellishments on the outside of the vases.
Sorry had to switch computers at work. It's fun having two sometimes :P
Do you know what feel you are going for? Vintagey, classic, dramatic, romantic, etc? Do you have your flowers or anything else picked out yet?
@ hcritton: I'm trying to go for something vintage and romantic. Flower I'm trying to steer away from because of budget. But I live close to LA so I might go check out what they have in the flower district. All I have are some fake blue hydrandgea flowers that are blue. But I was going to use those in the previous reception site we had picked, but I don't really want to here.
I would maybe google "brown inspiration boards" or "vintage inspiration boards" or just look around here at WB to get some good ideas. The color combinations with brown are endless. You could do brown and light blue, brown and green, brown and pink, different shades of brown...
You may also want to check out sites like save-on-crafts.com too if you haven't already which has realtouch flowers, decorative branches, vase fillers, and other decorations that you could use in your centerpieces. Your pearl idea would look really elegant and romantic I think so you could always stick with that idea and maybe put a ribbon around the hurricane glass with your monogram on it or something.
Since you want to stay away from flowers, you can work to really dress up your candles. Here is a pic of a vase wraped in a vintage lace as well as actual candles wrapped with lace. It would be really cute to do a cluster of candles for each centerpeice & very affordable. Plus the lace gives a very romantic & vintage feel.
Annie - love the candles....I am definitely going to steal that one, it's so vintagey!
Do they have colored linens available (one of the pictures had an overlay)? That might be a cost-effective way to add a little extra something to the tables.
the only thing I recommend AND will make the place amazing will be chiavari chairs, that is ONE thing brides should really not be cheap about, it transforms the room and makes it look so elegant...... all of the options above are great =)
re your colours
Maybe Chocolate brown and either a fushia pink or a pale pink, another option that looks really nice is Chocolate and blue like a pale tiffany blue, or to really go Vinatge you could go Choclate and ivory cream, match with loads of glass candle holders and maybe a silver plated candelarbra in the centre of each table if you wanted some flowers you could att some short vases maybe some flea market finds with a soft pink flower in one colour or various shades?
just a few ideas
if there is a ledge at those big windows maybe you could line the windows with the big hurricane vases with candles in them? the room looks huge having loads of candles might make the area feel more intimate

Hi Bee's,
Okay I'm completely lost and I'm extremely over stress about the wedding and other things as well that I can't come up with a design. I don't know what to do about decor. I'm going to list the link below of our reception site so you guys can get a better idea of what it looks like. Its called the Meridian Club. I need help figure out how to DIY the reception site or do it cheaply. I'm not sure what to do for center pieces? or decor in general. If you notice in some of the picture on the site I listed below ther are some Hurricane Vases on the table. The reception site provides those vases with candels and it will site on a round mirror with votives on the side. I want to use the Hurricane Vases with the candles but I don't want it to be just plain I want to add something too it. Any suggestion of what to add to the centerpieces or use as decor. Here some additional info about my wedding, I've choosen brown as my main color but I haven't choosen any other colors yet really. The room we are having our reception in is the one witht he windows you;ll see in the picture. I want a vintage feel to things. One thought I had was to fill the hurricane vases with fake perals and place the candle on top? What you guys think?
Thanks guys oh and here the link to the reception site:
