I have no idea what the self addressed envelope game is, but a lot of showers I go to, we play the laundry basket game. You take a laundry basket and fill it with household supplies like dish soap, sponges, cleaning supplies, shampoo, random kitchen utensils. You let people look at it for 1-2 minutes then cover it up with a blanket. Each person then tries to remember what was in the basket and whoever gets the most things, wins. I hope I explained that well.

For prizes, there are usually candles, small potted flowers, etc.

What you have planned sounds awesome!!! It really sounds like you’ve thought of it all.

This is an idea that works with the kitchen theme and maybe one of your existing games… At a shower I went to recently, the hostess had asked the groom questions about the couple and the bride had to guess his answers. If she got the question right, she got a canned good for her pantry. If she got it wrong, she got a canned good with the label peeled off to make it a “mystery” canned good for her pantry. The “rule” was that once she opened the canned item, she had to incoporate it into that night’s meal no matter what the contents were. That one was fun for both the bride and the guests. ๐Ÿ™‚

I didn’t know the Self Addressed Envelope thing was a game… I just find it insulting.

I just have a question…. Is there a reason you’re choosing not to use her registry for the shower youre throwing?

@Ms.Meghann:  My guess was that you can’t exactly purchase from a honeymoon registry and wrap it up to bring to a shower, but that’s just how I understood it. ๐Ÿ™‚

@Gemstone:  I guess it depends on the honeymoon registry. My friends had items like “dinner for two on the beach” and “our favourite bottle of wine for our first dinner” and “champagne and strawberries delivered to our room” or “couples massage” and items like that.

So sure, you cant “wrap” it exactly, but the gift could be given within a card or gift bag… or even wrapped in a box if the gifter preferred.

But I guess it depends on the registry? I havnt really seen any that just ask for cash for the registry and thats it…. But maybe they’re out there….

@AlbertaLolita:  Wouldn’t she already have their addresses if she’s inviting them to the wedding tho?  or didn’t you have them to send the invites to the people attending the shower?

I think the games you have so far are great!

For decorations, you could pick one well known cookbook and use that to pull colors for decor. You could even gift the bride the cookbook, or use it for a game prize. Display it on the buffet or gift table along with a vase with some kitchen tooks and a few flowers.

At the Dollar Store you can find miniature kitchen tools like whisks and spatulas. Make miniature centerpieces to use around the room or at each place setting.

Another idea is to use an Umbra photo holder. Attach the recipe cards as they arrive, or are opened by the bride.

If any of your friends’ children have a play kitchen, you could incorpoarte that in the decor- perhaps as the gift table or dessert table.

I always, I don’t know, maybe it’s my family only, but the bride at her shower would sit in a specific decorated chair and when she opened the gifts, the bows would go on a straw hat, then placed on her head for pictures. I know it’s not a “game” but it’s something that we’ve always done!
