check out the threads on Indiebride's boards. There are a lot of Brooklyn brides there. Some places off the top of my head: Frankie's 457 (great little resto in Carroll Gardens), DUMBO Arts Center, Pochron Studios (in Dumbo, loft space), Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture. Good luck!
You can try BAM, Smack Mellon, and Bubby's is very popular with Brooklyn brides too. I believe the Brooklyn Lyceum also holds weddings, what a cool place to have a wedding!
Oh! And also, if you don't know about this blog already, you should definitely check it out. There's a list of venues and vendors (in Brooklyn and Manhattan) along the sidebar. Plus, it's just awesome.

Wow, you rock! I was getting frustrated with the manhattan venues and wanted something unique and low key. Thanks for all your help, I'll check them out!
One more question:
Does anyone know the current rates for the Abigail Kirsch Stage 6 at Steiner Studios? I keep hearing about them in my searches and I'm just curious. Thanks!
don't know the rates but i do know Abigail Kirsch catering in general is VERY pricey. Some of the priciest in the city...
newlyengaged - I'm also newly engaged in NYC so I've done a lot of reserach into venues over the past 6 months (I got engaged a few weeks ago but we both decided a while back that we were going to get married next year!)
Anyhow, Stage 6 is not cheap. Depending on the day and month, they have certain minimums. A Saturday night in September has a 200 person minimum and each person is $208, not including service charge and tax - it comes out to almost $270 per person with those two added. $270 x 200 = $54,000 And then you have to pay for flowers, photographer, and officiant...
thanks, all. i'm realizing that there is SO much information out there (i've also been lurking on Kvetch) and it's a bit overwhelming! i guess i have my hands full with doing research on places. thanks for all your help.
How about more budget options in NYC/BKLYN? I'm looking around, and the numbers are making my head spin. I'm thinking 150 people, sit-down dinner.
Thank yoU!

Hi all,
I'm new to this board and just got engaged. I'm feeling VERY overwhelmed with trying to find a venue for ceremony and reception in NYC, and I'll be starting business school in one week! I have no idea how people plan a wedding, especially when they have little time and money. We're looking for loft spaces, preferably in brooklyn because it's cheaper and it's where we met and live now (williamsburg), but I don't see much on the net when it comes to brooklyn. We're also open to having it at a restaurant if it's cheaper and good food. We plan on having about 100 guests.
Thanks for any help and insights!
