Is anyone else planning to wed in French Polynesia? We’re going to spend 3 days each in Raiatea, Rangiroa and Moorea. I would like to have a ‘just us’ wedding (wearing my own wedding dress on a beach with a photographer & someone to read the vows. I’m not interested in the traditional Tahitian wedding ceremony. What I want sounds so simple to me, yet it’s so hard to find. Does anyone have any experience with a wedding in French Polynesia or have friends who did this? So far it’s been an uphill battle.

@gaislgrl: I was thinking exactly the same as you – I am not a fan of the kitschy polynesian wedding but wants the romance of the tropics. Its a bit funny though seeing it there in fornt of me the way you described it.. Made me think whats the point of going to Tahiti when I can do the same style that you described here in Australia 🙂
Have you tried contacting the hotels directly to get a package catered to that taste? I would think they can probably make alternate arrangements?
One hassle with Tahiti weddings that i found so far is that the legal documents need to be translated – an extra expense… but still, a lovely place to get married.
I am very here and there about where I will get married, but was thinking of a Paul Gaughin cruise for the honeymoon, around the polynesian islands… 🙂 I wish Fiance would put his foot down and tell me what he wants!!!!
I look forward to hear of your progress.
