Well at the time our company offered travel agents to employees as a perk to use for personal trips. It was $800 cheaper than travelocity’s price. They offered us a package that is on aa.com. Honestly, a lot of times travel agents offer discounts right then and there. Figure out where you want to go via travelocity, reviews, reading tripadvisor, etc, then call up an agent and have them beat the price.

My parents have used an agent, then gone with travelocity b/c not every price can be beat. A lot of times, though, their agent is able to find them a better traveling route or upgrade them immediately or get them better seats, etc, and it is mostly cheaper for them to use an agent. It never hurts, though. AT the very least an agent could help you narrow down an area to travel to, depending on what you want to do and what you want to spend.

My Fi and I picked out what we wanted (hotel, dates, etc) and emailed the info to our company TA and told him to beat the price. We paid in full right then and there. They give you the option to pay a deposit but then you are at the mercy of the price fluctuations until a month before. Sure you could save some, but your trip could skyrocket and you could get screwed, too, so don’t let them talk you in the whole ‘pay now and you can see what happens to the fares’ because i would be checking everyday and freaking out.

Also we got travel insurance thrown in b/c she said we were flying during monsoon season. It was free thanks to him!
