We’re sending our invites out in May, but since we are having a Destination Wedding about 3 hours away and it’s going to require at least 2 hours travel from everyone (I do have guests from other states/countries), I’d suggest sending your STD’s asap.

We sent ours out in September and everyone was SO thankful!

I was curious about this too. I was thinking May and having RSVP due about 8 weeks before in Mid June. Most of our guests have to travel at least 4 hours. What is everyone else doing?

I was wondering that same thing…

STD’s are not a big thing in France so I’m a little confused as to when I should send my invitations 🙁

I am from Ireland and am getting married right outside Chicago.

I slacked on the save the dates, we are sending them out in December. I did set up a wedding website and made sure that all my family in Ireland has access to it. I am doing and A and B list. It has become the norm in my family. I have over 30 aunts and uncles and 50 first cousins. Plus our venue only holds 200. I am sending the A list to people from over-sea’s, we are sending them invites in March with an RSVP date of May 1st. May 1st we are sending invites to all of our friends and family here.

This made save the dates difficult because I won’t be sure about our B list until I get my A list responses…therefore, I am really only sending Save The Dates to family and bridal party.

whew…and yes figuring all this out has been SUPER stressful!!

Typically, invitations are sent out 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding. Our RSVP date is 4 weeks before the wedding, to allow for stragglers and having to track people down, and then our final numbers are due to the caterers 2 weeks before the wedding. This means that we’re probably sending mid-late June. I think a ~month is MORE than enough time to write your name, check a box, and toss it in the mail.

I’d say about 85% of our guestlist is out of town (~3 hours or more), and our Save-The-Date Cards were sent out in September.

We are sending our Save the Dates 6-7 months in advance, and Invites I think 2-3 months.  Most of the people we are inviting are traveling at least 5 hours to be here.  I have some friends who are coming from Germany, and asked them (over a year in advance) in person whether they’d like to come, and gave the dates so they can make travel arrangements as soon as possible to keep costs down.
