I got my promise ring at Helzberg! I had a great experience but I had no custom work done to it at all. I haven’t even gotten it replated yet though it needs it terribly I just haven’t had time. I’m sorry you had such a bad experience with their behind the scenes workers =/

@LovesBeingAMrs:  Sorry you had to experience this, but I’ve heard stories like this about Zales, Kay’s, Jared, etc, (big chain stores), but it seems like they’re very hit or miss.  I think it all depends on who they hire.  Some workers are very talented right out of school, others are not.  I personally wouldn’t go to anyone that wasn’t a master IJO jeweler because I wouldn’t want to deal with a large chain that may have a high turnover.  I feel it’s always better to hire craftsmen, not companies.

You might want to let Helzberg’s parent company (Berkshire Hathaway) know about your experience.  It’s great that ladies want to share their experiences on here with other ladies, but IMO, it’s also very important to let the company know about your satisfaction/displeasure.

FWIW, I would have been LIVID if I’d had to deal with this over and over again.

I know how u feel. My original engagement ring is from them. i had it resided after my husband proposed. well it came back with crooked prong and the bottom of the ring was warped. also…i noticed my diamond looked different…it had a crack…bubble and highly visible inclusion. i suspected my diamond had been swapped. i mentioned it to the sales person and she said they couldn’t do anything about it…that there was no way to prove it….so now i don’t trust places that don’t have in house sizing.

@LovesBeingAMrs:  I don’t think master jewelers are working behind the scenes at chain stores like that.

@LovesBeingAMrs:  yeah I know. I had a similar experience with Zales. The customer service was great but they had to send my ring out twice to get it fixed. I don’t think they use the same kind of jewelers as say, a private store where the jewler is the salesperson.
