Commenting to follow. Have “virgin” hair but have been dying to do it. Would love to hear other bees’ experiences.

I use lush caca rouge henna. I have to henna my hair about once every other month. I love everything about it and would never go back to chemical dyes.

@dewingedpixie:  Imma be honest with you…

I was 17 and I went from blonde to black. What was in it? I don’t know. I bought it while I was in Greece. And the instructions were in arabic. Sooooo.. no idea!

@dewingedpixie:  Question: I heard it can be less permanent depending on your hair. Is this true? Like, does it fade quicker on some people? I have fine, light brown hair and I feel like it would “hold.”

@dewingedpixie:  “I had black hair with auburn/copper highlights thanks to being an italian irish muttling.” Haha!

That is horrible about the allergic reaction, I didn’t know that could happen…so if I were to not let the dye sit so long/wear it for a shorter amount of time, would the color be less intense? Sorry for all the questions; thank you for taking the time to answer 🙂

I’ve been using it for maybe a year now. I wanted to stop using chemical dyes because they are so terrible for you. I never had an allergic reaction at all but I’ve heard it can happen even if you’ve never had a problem before.

Anyway, if you’ve never used henna/indigo before, then first time you will probably hate it. Until the next day when you see your shiny, beautiful hair with natural looking highlights on your grays. At least that’s how I felt.

Honestly, it’s a mess to apply but each time I’ve used it, it’s gotten easier. Now I don’t make a mess at all. Try it!

I used the Lush Henna bars, the colour Marron I think it was called.  I wasn’t really impressed with it.  Yes my hair was soft, but it took all day and made a mess (I know some people sleep with it in so it doesn’t take up your whole day, but I never did).  The colour wasn’t exactly what I wanted.  I had no highlights, not sure if it is because I had no greys to provide different colours or what.

As much as I liked the idea of henna, I’m too lazy to go through trial and error to see if I could make it exactly what I wanted.  I had highlights done at a salon after I ran out of the henna, and she didn’t really listen to me and the colour still wasn’t what I wanted.  I’m just letting it all grow out now.
