My mom tells the story that when she married my dad she was very young and he bought her an itty bitty e-ring. Her parents didn’t want them to get married (and actually had it annuled the first time due to her being a minor) but my mom and dad got married again as soon as she was of age.
Anyway, her mother took her to a jewelry store and bought her a “better” e-ring. That first one just wasn’t good enough.
Isn’t that unbelieveable?
And what is even MORE unbelieveable is that they all lived happily ever after. My dad didn’t dislike or resent his Mother-In-Law for that e-ring caper. Well, if he did he got over it since he was never anything but nice to her. And my grandmother was a nice woman. don’t really know what bee got into her bonnet about that ring. It’s not like my grandparents were high society or anything, they lived on a farm outside of a small town in the Midwest.
So when I hear about brides trading up I now think of this story.
