I just finished free handing this “here comes the bride” sign for my flower girl to carry. I had an extra piece of burlap and decided to give it a try. I need honest opinions, as free handing has never been my talent. Does it look like a 3rd grader did it? I can easily break down and try to buy stencils but I can never find any stnecils that i think look whimsical and pretty. I could order one off Etsy but I have a hard time justifying the ridiculous mark up on such a simple project.
Remember, this piece is unfinished. I am only looking for critique of the free hand lettering. Thanks!

I would just thicken the letters a bit for legibility purposes, but otherwise I think it looks great, as a fellow DIYer.

@MrsM914: I’m not a fan of the whole burlap trend to be honest but as for the whimsical pretty script you definitely nailed it. Thumbs up!

I think it would look better the second time around. This one looks like a rough draft. I don’t think you need stencils, just one that looks cleaner.

Looks like a good start, but I would darken/thicken the script. It’s hard to see. But I like the style.

@MrsM914: i like it, I just wish that the lettering was darker and bolder

@MrsM914: I think if you go over the letters again so they are bolder, it will be perfect.

I think it looks good but it just needs to be a darker font/bolder so that it’s easier to read. I think the script looks good, it’s just a little harder to read.

i like it. i would definitely darken the letters and make them a little thicker but i know since its your first draft i’m sure it’ll look great when you are finished. i think your free hand looks pretty good to me!

I think it looks very cute! Nice work!

Love if but can you make the lettering black? I’m a fan of hand drawn type 🙂
Oh I’m a total type/design snob so I don’t like everything, that’s for sure.

- Wedding: April 2013 - A court...
Eh. I’d try to go over the letters the H and B especially where it should be curved is pointy / stiff

im not a fan of burlap or signs 🙁 but i think making it bolder would help…

@lolot: Good suggestion. I love “bombshell” font too. Maybe it would be more forgiving.
