OooOOoOOooOO! How exciting! As far as a typical time period goes... my fiance ordered my ring 2 weeks before he was going to give it to me. The big thing was though, that there was a freak snow storm in the state it was being shipped from (he ordered through Blue Nile). When I opened the new deep freezer (one of my 'fake out' gifts) he gave me for Christmas, it had a note explaining that my ring should be at our house in a couple of days. :) So, mine should have been about 2 weeks, but was a little longer due to mother nature. Congrats on your soon-to-be engagement!
My boyfriend bought me a ring for my 21st birthday, and I had NO IDEA he had been shopping around for it...apparently he'd looked into at least ten jewelers, and although we had looked at rings in the mall, I didn't have a clue! He also gave it to me three months before my birthday because he couldn't stand waiting, haha. Maybe your guy is as impatient as mine won't be able to resist giving it to you soon? ;) I'm so happy for you, enjoy these days!
My fiance had the ring for about 2 months before he gave it to me because we had planned a vacation and he wanted to wait until then
Sigh, I wish mine would start already! I do not like waiting very much, especially since we'll probably get married next August (yay for short engagements!)
From the time he BOUGHT the ring, it took about 6 weeks to come in. It's such an exciting time - congratulations!
How exciting!! I think it will be really soon because he has involved your mom in the search.
Oh, exciting! My FI couldn't even wait until the ring was in to propose! But, had the ring been ready when it was supposed to be, it would have been a few hours before he gave it to me! It would have been burning a hole in his pocket, I guess!
From what I've heard, once the ring is in the boy's possession, it burns a hole in their pocket! FH had the ring for just over a week before he proposed and he said he considered doing it even earlier but held out to go through with his original plan. All of his friends who are engaged have said the same thing, once the ring was in their possession, all they wanted to do was propose! However, it might take some time to get the ring he chooses, since depending on what he gets, they might have to order it or resize it or order another stone or something...So just bc he went shopping today doesn't mean he'll come home with it (but pat him down when he does, just to make sure!)...Either way, you're so close, it's going to happen sooooooon!!
EEK!!! I'm so excited for you!!!
I know how you feel, I have trouble with surprises too.
Try not to psych yourself out - he's going to do it, and like you said, since your mom knows, it'll probably be soon!!!
Tell us all about it when it happens!!!
Thank you all for the kind words! I imagine he'll go to a few places to compare prices and whatnot, so I'm just trying to put it out of my head and be happy that at least I know it's definitely coming :) I'll let you all know what happens. Eek!
My Faince bought a ring the very first time he ring shopping, and waited 2 weeks to give it to me. He proposed to me infront of the Red Love Statue in Central Philadelphia.
It happened! He picked up the ring and proposed that night. Even though I knew he'd been shopping, I hadn't expected it nearly so soon, so I was still surprised. Yay!
He actually found out what I wanted by talking to my best friend, who had HER boyfriend call me and say he was shopping for rings for her... and what did I think? Very sneaky. And effective!
Congratulations notquitek!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How exciting!! Do we get to see pictures of your beauty?!
Ahhhh! I'm so happy for you! And a little jealous-- a cushion cut is my current obsession!! :) Mind sharing what size it is if you know? If not that's cool... but I think I'm going to get something in the 1ct range and I'm not sure what that looks like!
Congratulations, doll !
Wow, runrgurl10 wasn't kidding, it really did burn a hole in his pocket!
Your ring is beautiful, lovely, timeless, and a whole plethora of adjectives that still don't do it justice.
Can't wait to hear the whole story :)
I was just getting ready to comment that he proposed 4 weeks ago and I'm getting the ring tomorrow...then saw the follow up posts. Congrats, the ring is gorgeous!
Thanks, everyone!
@CorgiTales-- it's 1.51 carats. He got a great deal on it, but he also works right next to the diamond district in NYC, so there was a lot to choose from.
He proposed by cooking me dinner (for the first time in our three years together) at our apartment "for my upcoming birthday." After dessert he said there was one course left, and brought out some flowers and the ring. It was very sweet, and I just couldn't believe it was happening!
@NotQuiteK: My ring comes from the Diamond District as well. It's definitely a great resource for NYC brides!
@notquitek and hotchildin the city- my ring, and wedding band came from the diamond district as well! Amazing deals to be had there!
My boyfriend bought the ring at the end of june and it took about 3 weeks till the ring came in. He held onto it for another few weeks or so. I think just to annoy me haha!

So, I accidentally found out that my boyfriend is going ring shopping TODAY. He's actually taking my mom :) No one involved knows that I know, but he's been totally crafty in finding out what I want without me knowing. If the silly boy hadn't left his email open on my computer, I'd have no idea!
My question is... is there a typical time period between looking at rings and buying them? I know that boys can take their sweet time proposing after they have the ring, but because he's already involved my family (in particular my kind of excitable and pushy mother), might that be a sign that he won't wait quite as long? Is that just wishful thinking?
I'm just trying to zen my way through it right now (and not snoop farther), but it's so hard!
