is more than two too many? i find them fascinating. i love getting ideas and chances to win giveaways. i feel like i want to attend as many as possible not to miss any companies! am i WEDDING CRAZY?!
I'm going to my first this weekend! I don't think you can go to too many! I think I'm gonna print off labels with my info so it'll be faster to enter drawings haha gotta love free stuff!
I went to 3. The first one I didn't really know what I was looking for, so we just kind of wandered around. The second one we were looking for a few vendors still so we went to get prices from some people. The last one we went to we were only looking for a florist and wanted to get more free stuff, which we ended up winning a Photo booth from.
@Aliz: yes do that! it will be very helpful and most do that ahead. i went to the bridal extravaganza in houston and they gave one sheet free of labels and then you had to buy some. i already had mine on hand but one more free one didnt hurt!
@redhead46: thats how i felt as well. my first one i wasnt actually engaged yet. it was a month prior but i knew he would be proposing soon because it was in the talks. so i just went to my second one as an official bride. But i have like two more listed on my calendar to attend along with open houses which are smaller more intimate bridal shows :-/
1 was enough for me but if you're enjoying them and getting something out of them, then go to them all!
I have only been to 1 so far, and I thought it helped me tremendously. After seeing the high prices of certain vendors that I thought I needed, it gave me a quick dose of reality. I became more focused on what I really need versus what I want. I'll probably attend another one in the summer to just enjoy it more (the last one was a bit stressful) and see to any last minute details.
I went to 2.
The first was a smaller one held by Welcome Wagon, shortly after we got engaged. (I dragged my FI with me!) It was okay, but not very big so I didn't get a lot of inspiration.
I just went to my 2nd one a few weekends ago, and it was the biggest one in my city. But by this point we've been engaged since March, the wedding is in June, so I've already made decisions on all the big things (venue, photographer, dress, caterer, etc). It was still great to go and see what was around for decor and photography (I took lots of photographers pamphlets and went to their websites after to get inspiration for photos to share with my photographer). And it's always fun to spend a day with the girls :)
I think that's the last show I'll go to though. They can be expensive (the big one was $28 per person, and I paid for my 2 bridesmaids so $84!!), and I kind of feel like once you've been to a big one, you've seen everything. I would definitely recommend going to them for newly engaged though - BEFORE you've made too many decisions.
Only one for me, though I went to one a couple of years ago for my mom's wedding too.
I found for me they are pointless. It's mostly a bunch of wedding vendors just trying to get you to use their services at grossly overinflated rates. No thank you. The only reason I really went was to try to win stuff like a honeymoon etc. I actually did win a free engagement photo session but I didn't use it because everyone told me how they are just going to charge an arm and leg for the actual photo's and try to hard sell you into using their very expensive services for the wedding. I was actually quoted $3500 for a 4 hour photography package for my wedding. Um hell no. I paid my photographer $1000 for full day coverage, photo albums, cd's, and rights to pics. I find that the vendors at bridal shows are just after your money.
I went to three technically, and booked at least one vendor from each. I went to one early in planning where I found my photographer, and then one closer to the date where I booked my cake and makeup/hair stylist since I was getting married about an hour and a half from home, and realized I couldn't use my usual one.
Then the last one barely counts, but there was a bridal show going on while I was in the middle of searching for a specific shade of linen and got sick of going to meetings with particular vendors. I saw there was one going on down the street from my house that had multiple linen vendors so I ran in super quick, found someone who had chartreuse linens and booked them without even looking at the rest of the tables.
I didn't go to any because I work weekends, and could never make it. There were at least two that happened here while I was engaged.
If you like them, you should go to all you want. I went to one, which was free (or I wouldn't have gone) because the hotel venue was hosting it, but mostly it was a waste of my time. The vendors seemed to divide into two groups - those who completely lost interest in me once they found out my wedding was smaller and those who were selling things I didn't want. We did get to try out a really nice photo booth.
I went to one here for the food. -_- Small admission fee for lots of catering and bakery samples. That grazing was my lunch. lol
Since we're getting married out of state, none of the vendors interested me.
Technically speaking, I've been to one. But I was there with work, and didn't really get anything out of it b/c it was closer to where I live, and the wedding is six hours away! We haven't had time to go to any near the wedidng b/c of time off from work.
Just two, they all become the same after that. I actually found them fairly useless, magazines and the internet were the best help.
I went to one when i first got engaged (back in march) but it was in the city i now live in, not where the wedding is going to be. Basically I went just because. I wanted to do "bride" stuff.
I plan on going to one next month, hopefully. But it will be very near where I am getting married. So this will be more helpful.
@MissKayEss: thats is true they can be costly! wow $28 a person. i dont know if i would have did that one! lol
@JustMarried51912: i know. some of the photography prices for vendors at the shows are crazy! i want to tell them, your photos are good ...but there not that good!
@cinnamonbun: awww you didnt get to attend any? i think a bride should attend atleast one in her wedding planning. its a fun experience.
yes out of all the flyers and info i bring home from the shows after i sort them i have a very thin pile of the ones that are in my budget and the ones services i favor. the samples are always great. at the last bridal show i went to, it was so big that i got tired of trying all the cakes. lol.
One! It was a waste of time, too. Didn't book anything. Ate a little free cake and watched a fashion show.
Three isn't a very different number than two! Maybe you are a little wedding crazy, lol. Hope you win!!
I went to one and it was awful... we were looking for cake and a DJ and all they had was tons and tons of dress vendors and cake places that didn't even have any cake to taste. seeing as that is supposed to be "denmarks best" wedding show, I think I'll give any other ones a miss.
This past week-end I went to my 7th show that I go to... I like going to them to get the magazines for free (yeah I'm bad lol) and I like the fashion shows. I'm pretty much done going now unless I go with my newly engaged friend, she is sooo new when it comes to wedding stuff lol
I went to two! I was a lucky winner both times- the first time I won $500.00 off my dress, and the second time I won free alterations! Can't get any better than that :) I don't think you can ever go to too many, especially if you have yet to find all your vendors. If you're 100% ready for your big day though, I don't really see the point. I could have gone with some friends to one a couple of weeks ago, but I've already decided on all my vendors so decided not to.
I'm going to my second one next sunday. We already have our venue, DJ and wedding photographer (we were able to get locked in prices) and I've already decided on our wedding cake bakery...so it's just more to try to win prizes, eat some free samples and look around. Then go out for something to eat afterwards.
I mean I probably will attend one more (totaling 3) before our wedding. But maybe we'll get lucky and win something!!! :)
I don't think you're going wedding crazy :) I say go for it!
@GreenDream: lol. thanks, yea maybe just a lil bit wedding craze!
I went to one.
Didn't win anything, most of the vendors were out of my budget. And the spam I got for months afterwards (not just email & postcards, but phonecalls!) wasn't worth it.
The bridal extravanganza i recently went to had the guy from say yes to the dress there. it was 25 extra to hear his spill so i passed on that! lol. but i did win two free whitening pens from a dental company there. and some other little prizes but i aswell like getting the bridal mags. got my BRIDAL magazine subscription free from my first one i attended.
Everyone has their own opinion about attending shows. there was a gun show a couple doors down and i was like.....UUUGGH why are they attending that.lol. thats probaly the same thing the guys were saying about me attending the bridal show.
@abbyful: oh yea! the spam can get a little out of control. i dont have a seperate email for just wedding stuff so i delete a good amount daily.
I went to one, but it was a very low key indie wedding fair and pretty cool. FI and I both enjoyed ourselves. One of the big bridal expos, though? Could not pay me to go there.
@Roe: lol. why do you say that? the large crowds and cost? i usually go the 2nd day of the big shows to avoid huge crowd.
@GreenDream: Agreed. I went to one. I hated it. Everything looked like it was meant for someone else's wedding but certainly not for mine.
Umm...Well, I've been engaged since Feb. 8, 2008. So, I've been to quite a few bridal showers, I had 8 weddings in 2010 alone!
1...and never again lol! It was just sooo not for me, and now I have all my vendors so I'm good.
1 was enough for me. All the vendors I ended up using were not at bridal shows.
@bearlove: right! it depends on your theme and what you like. the whole "bling" wedding theme is popular right now so you find alot of that displayed at the shows. If you are a plain or barn yard type of theme, you wont really find that at the shows.
