Hey ladies! Just thought as the only current Toronto Bee I would open up the T.O. Bee board for introductions. I'm Miss Hummingbird, I am 25 and I'm getting married on June 28, 2008. Who else is out there from the area? Introduce yourself!
I'm getting married at Hart House. Darla - another 9/20/08 bride! Woo hoo! Where are you getting hitched!
Question for you ladies: where are you registered? Any recommendations? I'm hearing not great things about The Bay... Did anyone go to William Ashley? My fiance and I are in town this Friday and plan to make an appointment there.
We registered for place settings and a few other fun things at William Ashley. It was actually a lot of fun to look over everyhing and cool to have so many options when it came to dishes and flatware. Plus, you get a really nice set of champagne flutes for registering, which we're going to use for our first toast. For general stuff, we did The Bay since everyone knows it.
OMG academicsocialite, I'm trying to book a tour of the Hart House. We haven't decided on a venue yet, and the pictures I've seen of the Hart House are beautiful. Any tips on who to speak to? How big is your guestlist, cause ours is seriously out of control and I'm not sure they'll be able to accomodate us.
academicsocialite: we're registering at the Bay because its national, so its easier for people to get stuff at.
BUT if you're internet inclined, we just discovered myregistry.com and its pretty neat, you can put anything on there from any store's website. I put a GPS navigator thingy from bestbuy, a few ceramic pieces from etsy.com, some camping gear from MEC, you can even set up a cash gift fund. Your guests can view the items, buy it straight off the internet OR go to the store and buy it.
It's a great alternative to the regular department store towels and bedsheets and chinaware, some people might not need or want.
Oh and another plus: I'm planning to register at William Sonoma/Pottery Barn but they don't have the registry online for Canadian stores. So I'm going to add the items onto the myregistry account, and this way your guests can view it and then go to the store to get it.
Hey ladies......originally from Toronto, but now live in the 905-area. Brampton, to be exact! Our wedding is still far off - November 7, 2009 but we've got a few thing already done. Reception booked at The Manor, photographer booked (Mariusc at "Where Heaven Meets Earth") DJ booked (Hello DJ!) and florist booked (Fran Sackler)......actually, now that I look, we've got a lot of stuff done...lol!!!! Love the whole planning process and can't wait to incorporate our personalities into all the small DIY stuff for the day!
Aninhas - We have approximately 150 and I think the Great Hall can accomodate over 200. I've been very happy with the staff there - Stephanie has been very helpful and she's probably the person to get in touch with.
chinglish - hmm, this myregistry thing is interesting, we just have such traditional families, I'l feeling the need to keep eveything as clear as possible. Hard to do with all this cross-border stuff.
Just got back from a weekend of planning in the T-dot - tasted cake, registered at Wm. Ashley, met with the florist and our planner, had my first and hopefully final fitting, did my hair and makeup trial... I'm still exhausted. How is planning going for the rest of you? I'm definitely finding decor the most challenging element to coordinate. Has anyone used Chairman Mills for anything yet?
I've used Chairman Mills before in my previous job, and I would highly recommend them. They have a tonne of stock and are very prompt and professional and I think the prices are pretty reasonable too.
I'm a Toronto gal too! We're getting married Aug. 22nd/09.
Since both me and my fiancee are originally from Hamilton and our families are there, we're getting married in the Hammer. The ceremony is at my home church (where my parents were married), reception is at the Faculty Club at McMaster University (where my fiancees parents had their reception).
Hi there! I'm in Ajax, and grew up in Malvern. My wedding date is Feb 21 09...nine months from today. Got everything booked except for the transportation...the FI will take care of that when he gets back. He is in Victoria for the next 3 months training in the Navy.
