eek! I have nothing done! OK I have bought my dress, booked the venue and ordered postcards for my save-the-dates but I am severly procrastinating. I keep thinking, "I have a year". No - I HAD a year when I got engaged... now it's 8 months... time to get my behind in gear! (This is the same for literally getting my behind in gear to look good at my wedding, so I guess it's off to the gym I go)
What things should I have done at this point? Is it to early to harass my coordinator about flowers and such?
our wedding is 8 months from yesterday. it's slowly starting to get closer.
aloweha: it's not too early to start discussing flowers or booking any other vendors that you want. the sooner the better, so that you have as many options as possible when booking people. right now i have the venue, florist, and dress and before the end of the week deposits will be going to our baker, dj, photographer, and officiant.
I am in the same boat as you aloweha - I HAD a year. But that was three months ago! But, I have venue, church, band, photographer, and my dress. My DIY STDs are being printed and I hope to send those out in a few weeks. We've looked at BM dresses and I think I have one. I am good with making the major decisions, but all the little stuff (yet to be planned) is what makes me nervous!
@erindesmar: me too! I keep going back and forth on colors, favors, all the little decisions.
@lindsy: Thanks for the heads up all about booking vendors - I think I need to send my coordinator an email and get things rolling! I'm nervous because I won't be able to meet with any vendors (Hawaii wedding, planning from Sydney) so I just have to trust that who she says is good, actually is good. ![]()
I can't believe that it is 8 months away. We started with 2 years, so you would think that we would have more done than we do... MUST FIND FLORIST AND OFFICIANT... GAHHHH. :)
Happy Planning
Wooo 8 months! Time is flying. I'm not too stressed at this point but I know in 3-4 months I'm going to start freaking out.
I wish it was like 2 months! I'm soooo ready for it to be here, I feel like I've been planning for forever!
I am 8 months from today! yay! All I have is venue/caterer, florist, and officiant. I'm deciding between 2 photogs and 2 bands though, so I think I'm okay? Hope so! And I know I need to buy a dress--but it's so hard!!
NYbride- you might want to get on the dress hunt soon. I went at the end of January and the boutique I got my dress from said the dresses are taking about 6 months to come in. If you're going somewhere like David's where they have a lot more stock than a boutique, you are safe now, but if you're looking into boutiques you should get hunting ASAP!
Yea for october brides! I have less than 8 months to go! Ladies I think those who don't have a dress, flowers, etc. you should start looking soon. I wanted this florist and had a consultation with her a year before our wedding (october) and then she calls me the day before the consultation and tells me another bride booked the date already! And mine is on a sunday. so get going ladies!
Most of me just wants the date to get here already but part of me is in panic mode! My FI keeps joking that I have cold feet! No.....I have too much left to plan!!
I need to finalize my BM dress and book some ceremony musicians - that's on my to do list for March. Oh, and send out STDs.
I think that the four month mark - June will be when it really hits me!!
I know about dress shopping! How did you guys know you had "the one?" I did go this past weekend to Kleinfeld and another boutique. They said I should do it within the next couple of weeks, but weren't being too crazy about it so hopefully I'm ok. I am just the worst decision maker ever, though, so that's my problem!
OMG my heart skipped a beat, DUH my wedding is only 8 months away!! I only have the venu booked....AAGGHH!! I'm still all wrapped up in my researching & deciding mode!!
Seriously... you just know!! I went to David's and found 4 that I really liked, but I told my girlfriends who were with me that none of them gave me that "the one" feeling. At our 2nd stop (a boutique) I must have tried on 6 or 7 gowns and then the sales associate came out with THE dress.. I knew before I put it on that it was the one for me! My girlfriends said I was glowing with the dress on. It's a different reaction for everyone, but you'll get a feeling inside that lets you know you've found YOUR dress!
8 MONTHS!?!?! Where does the time go?!?!
So far we have the venue, caterer, church and hotel blocks. We are about to settle on a photographer and I'm starting the dress shopping next week. Also, we have a baker in mind as well. We still have to start the research for the DJ and florist.
8 months seems like forever, but I know it's not!! I think we are doing really good. We have the sites for the ceremony and reception. I have most of my flowers, found the paper I'm using for our invitations at Michaels, made our rsvp postcards on the computer. My aunt is making our cake and our mints. Friend of ours is performing the ceremony and his wife is takig our pictures. I've already found the bridesmaid dresses, my mom and his mom have their outfits. It all seems to be coming together too perfectly. I keep waiting for something to not click. Putting off my dress shopping til the end of March. Hopefully that will go smoothly also!! Only big things left are finding a DJ and the tuxes!!
Woohoo! I'm not the only one who hasn't sent out save-the-dates! My mother keeps calling and saying "Brena... everyone keeps asking when your wedding is. Send your STD's please."
It so exciting to get into more planning!! I need to get off my booty and pick a dress!! =)
OK is it a new weddinbee thing or did our wedding dates suddenly appear by our names!?!??!?!?! aaaaaah
Ok, now that I have calmed down. Srsly, our dates and our cities. Have I not noticed this before right now??
On my dress. It was one of the first that I tried on. I knew I loved it right away and it was sort of what I was envisioning. But. I felt weird picking a dress that I tried on in the first five minutes of dress shopping, ever. So I went to a few other stores (with girlfriends) then brought one of my BM back to the original store and dress. When I tried it on, I knew. She told me that she knew. And she told me she knew I knew.
My mom knew beforehand but didn't want to influence my decision. My dress lady and my aunt came right out and told me the first time I tried on the dress it was for me (they siad they were 60 and didn't need to hold anything back anymore.)
So, I knew, but I didn't. I knew more after I looked around more. You just need to feel comfortable in something and feel like you look spectacular. That is how you will know.
When I first got engaged I had over 1 1/2!!! I cannot believe it's only 8 months now. I feel like I am overloaded with the nitty-gritty aspects of the wedding. There are so many details to work out, it's crazy. My dress is being started (having it made) in a couple weeks... that makes it seem like it's really here! Now I need to finalize the BM dresses so they have time to get them!
Yay!! I'm SO ready!! I have almost everything planned, found my dress last weekend!!
Just little assembly things left, gotta mail the STDs, print, cut and assemble the invites, write vows, buy rings, ask Uncle to officiate....and save all the money we need, lol!!!
I'm SO ready to be married!!
We still have plenty of time! I was freaking out in January - we didn't even have a VENUE, just a photographer! But now it's the end of February and I've done a lot! Venue, Cake, Catering, DJ, Photographer, STDs, Wedding bands, started Pocketfolds for invitations, Videographer. But I haven't even tried on a dress and I still have plenty of DIY stuff for the reception. I can't believe we got majority of that stuff cause I wasn't even trying! I just hope it keeps going smoothly...although I doubt it!
8 months - can't wait! The only thing I have left is our florist. I tried to book one today, but she was alreday booked for my date. Guess I will have to keep looking...
We have our ceremony/reception venue, photographers, caterer, dress, shoes, makeup artist (presuming she -a guest- can make it into town for the wedding), some decor and accessories.. and I think that's about it.
I know I'm doing postcards for my STDs but I reeeally need to get going and actually -make- them. I think I'll wait to send them out until after my brother's rather controversial wedding in a few weeks though. He's having an intimate ceremony that I envy him for, and yet, I'm glad I don't have the wrath of a bazillion extended relatives raining down on me like it currently is on him. Bleh. I'll postpone being the "good child" until after his nuptials.
I don't know who is more excited...my fiance' or I?!?! It seems that EVERYTHING is almost done! Woohooooo! Florist is booked, photographer is booked, church is booked, reception food is taken care of, cake is ordered & my dress is here. It has helped tremendously that I'm an encore bride and at 37 (will be 38 when I get married) it is refreshing and kind of FUN planning the 2nd time around. No committee decisions here! We've done what my fiance' and I want-no fussing, no clearing it with "the committee" (LOL!). I am meeting Monday afternoon with our church hostess who is also directing my wedding and "running" the reception with my florist to decide on final table placement & arrangments, decorations & final decisions about florals. The only thing left to do is find bridesmaids dresses that I like (everything looks like it belongs on a 20 year old-sorry girlies-or too cocktailish for a morning wedding, or just too darn expensive-we all have kids and mortgages!) and to make a final decision on wedding bands. I am finding with so much done in advance, it is giving me plenty of time to go thru pictures for the "movie" for the reception, choose my music for the ceremony & reception & find a flowergirl dress for my darling daughter. Woohoo-let's here it for our beautiful fall brides!!!!
I'm geting there, there's still so much to do. This is my plan to do a lot in the next 2 months, and take a month off to relax. So far, I have the ceremony, reception, invitations, bridal gown, qipao, bridemaids dress, photographers. In the works for Feb/March are the videographer, tux, wedding cake, DJ/MC. For those October brides, where are you and your future husband honeymooning at? Our wedding is on 10.24.09, we want to go on our honeymoon on the first week of November to the Caribbean Island, but I read that's hurricane season. So I'm wondering where all the October brides are heading for their honeymoon.
We are renting a cabin in Gatlinburg, TN. We are travelling to the Caribbean in 2010 for his sister's wedding, so we wanted to do something less beachy for the honeymoon. We rented an awesome luxury cabin that has an indoor swimming pool and an outdoor hot tub!
We are thinking of going to Turks & Caicos - it is sort of outside the hurricane belt. The good news is that mid-late Oct is the end of hurricane season anyhow.
We are getting married in Hawaii so we are sort of wrapping wedding and honeymoon into one. We will prob stay a few extra days after our wedding though, maybe hop to a different island.
@Erindesmar- be careful with the Caribbean in October. I've live in Florida for a while and experienced many, many hurricanes, and October isn't safe from hurricane season at all. Not to freak you out or anything but I just wanted to pass on a heads up!
I am getting married October 17th in San Antonio!!!!
Having major issues with Photography!!!! Other than that the major things are all done except for CAKE!!!
@aloweha - we have done our research into hurricanes.....T&C has not been hit for over 20 years. Unfortunately there are not many options for us since we are on the east coast. Our honeymoon will be the 18-25....so technically late October.
I am open to other suggestions!
hillO51080-we are also honeymooning in the moutains of Tennesee, renting a luxury cabin outside of Pigeon Forge-far away from the tourists and the crowds, just us up in the mountains with a fireplace and a hot tub! I can't wait to get away for an entire week and enjoy leaf season. My parents live not too far from the beach in Florida, so we can go there pretty much anytime we want, so a beach honeymoon just did not appeal to us at all.
