Okay, so technically I'm an Atlanta Bee...but I'm from Greenville originally! I would love to know if there are others in/from the area on Weddingbee!
Hey SC Bees! I live in Greenville right now (yay, magnolia!), but just moved here about 6 months ago from Raleigh. I'm getting married in September in Highlands, NC. You'd think planning a mini-destination wedding wouldn't be so hard, but it's taken way more time than I thought! Anyone else out there live in the upstate or plan to get married in the mountains?
Ha, Squirrelsgirl! Not only did Mr. Mags and I honeymoon in Highlands, but we're heading back up there this weekend! ![]()
We absolutely LOVE that area - I'm sure you're going to have an outstanding wedding!
Hi! I'm a TN bride but I'm getting married on Daufuskie Island, SC in 23 days.
I live a mere hour and a half from our wedding city and I must admit, its wearing me out. I'm commuting there for work as well. Its working out bc I can take care of wedding biz during the day. But I am tired. perhaps its wedding planning fatigue setting in. lol.
i'm really at the point where i could just show up....sans the things that have yet to be pulled together....
Ohh, Magnolia, you have to try the Inn at Half Mile Farm next time you're in Highlands (if you haven't already)! That's where we're getting married, and - although I admit to being a little biased - it is fanTAStic! Very romantic and charming, and the owners take very good care of you while you're there. You and your hubby would love it.
Have a great weekend!
Hello SC ladies! We're getting married in October in Charleston and planning it from VA. We moved last year (Navy) but we miss Charleston and use the wedding as an excuse to drive down there all the time! Since there are so many weddings in Charleston, I figure I can't be the only one on weddingbee!
All right so I'm neither engaged nor married, but I do have a boyfriend. Haha. I just love weddings! And I'm from SC myself. Born and raised. I think I was so compelled to do an article about Charleston in the Weddingbee Wiki because I heard that it was ranked #2 in the nation for being a great wedding destination.
@owlsrock...i totally stalked WB for a solid 4 months before my actual engagement....lol.....
I was just married in Charleston March 29, 2008 and all of my wedding dreams came true thanks to Kristin Newman Designs. Kristin and her team went above and beyond the call of wedding planner duty to anticipate our every need, stay a step ahead of me on the to-do list, and incorporate my every idea into the wedding of my dreams.
South Carolina brides, if you don't consider hiring Kristin to make your dreams a reality, you don't know what you will miss! I am more than happy to provide personal testimonials to anyone who would like any additional advice on my venues and vendors, which included:
Goldbug Island (Rehearsal dinner barbeque)
First Baptist Church, Church Street, Charleston (Ceremony)
The William Aiken House (Reception)
Heart and Soul (Reception Band)
Fish Restaurant (Caterer)
Kristin Newman Designs (Wedding planner)
Gathering Floral and Event Design (Florist)
Hey girls!
Like squirrelsgirl and magnolia, I'm from Greenville and I'm planning a November wedding in Greer (The Davenport). I love the sandblasted brick, wood floors, and brass chandeliers. It's such a clean space.
It's so nice to know that there's other "bees" from SC here! I love weddingbee and I tell all my friends (even the ones that could care less about wedding stuff) about it!! Seriously . . . about 87% of my wedding inspiration comes from either the posts here, or some link from the posts here!!
Hey everyone! I live in and I'm getting married in Central, my hometown, in my home church. The church website is currently under construction, and the only picture I can find online was taken at least 70 years ago, found here. It's changed since then - stain glass windows, an addition to the back, and a building nest door, where the reception will be held. We are both in our last semester of college planning a January wedding.
owlsrock and getmarried4less, I started reading weddingbee my freshman year of college, before my FI and I were even dating...
Hello!
I am from Greenville, but we are actually having our wedding in Amelia Island, FL - we're getting married in same church as my parents, and it's where my Grandparents lived for 35+ years. My fiance and I are also moving to Charleston after the wedding in June because he got a job down there. This is going to be one busy year!
If anyone needs any suggestions on Greenville, I'm happy to help!!
Hey SC Bees! I was born and raised in Lugoff... I currently live in Florence... and I'm getting married in Columbia in March 2010!! I am soooo EXCITED!!! We don't have a location yet but I am searching DAILY!! lol
(It's great to see SC represented.)
Yay Charleston Bee's!!! I'm getting married at the Thomas Bennett House on June 26, 2010!! Can't wait!
Hey, bees! I'm from a small town in Anderson County (Iva). I got my wedding and reception venue. My best friend's parent's home. Ceremony in front...reception in back. They have a beautiful home. But have a question...what kind of centerpieces do you suggest for a May wedding? It needs to be cheap and I have to be able to do it myself.
Hey sandia! I'm another SC bride, i'm from charleston but currently living in Central (yeah, I know where Iva is... and you probably know where Central is!)
Since its outdoors, why not do some candles/lanterns? When does the Anderson Farmers Market open? I've seen a lot of great flower growers there, you might be able to buy the flowers directly then arrange them yourself!
What kind of theme is your wedding? (you should totally PM me... I am so excited to have another SC bride on the board after waiting and waiting for one to show up!)
i like the candles because it's later in the evening. i'm just worried about curious children. that's why i thought of tall containers filled half way with sand with a votive candle on top. flame is out of harms way. I wanted colored sand, but it's way too expensive for me. so i think regular sand will be ok. and maybe i'll scatter some rose petals on the tables as like a table runner. of course, they'd be pink. what do you think?
Aw, that sound so romantic :) I love it!
Old Time Pottery on Laurens Rd. in Greenville is constantly putting their hurricane candle holder things on sale for like $2. I would keep checking their ads for when the next sale is, or if I remember when I see them on sale again I'll PM you!
ok thanks...i've been checking at michael's and hobby lobby and walmart but they're usually $5 or more. i'm on a very tight budget, so i gotta keep it simple. but i want it to be pretty too. my first thought was canning jars, but my fiance didn't like that idea (too redneck i think was his words). i even thought about going around to different thrift stores and yard sales to pick up similar glass containers.
I've tried the whole thrift stores for containers and there's not a lot out there. I've tried in Anderson, Easley, Seneca and Clemson and the pickings were slim! :(
These look like this:

They're 10 and 12 inches tall I think. Normally they're sold at about $3 I think so it's still cheaper than Michaels and Hobby Lobby (I think HL is such a rip off, personally).
Oh, also if you have any trees around or something you might want to look into lunabazaar.com's hanging lanterns, they're so pretty for outdoor weddings!
My best friend's dad has some lighting up. But the trees are kind of tall so I don't know. Maybe i can get something up there.
I'm thinking Mason jars and jelly jars to hold candles. Pretty, simple, and of course, southern!
Hey Wedding Bees!! I'm from Anderson, but we are getting married in Clearwater, FL. Glad to have found a borad with some local girls though!
Hey Ladies!
I live in Charleston and am currently a waiting bee...any good tips out there?
Finally a place for us southern bees!!! All the classified decor is located in NY or NJ, and forget about me paying $100 just to ship a few decorations.
I'll be getting married on August 14th on Sullivan's Island in Charleston, with the reception at a cute little place called Goldbug Island, right on the Intracoastal Waterway. It's gonna be hot and humid out there for sure, but we're doing everything inside!
For all of you late summer/early fall bees down in Charleston, make sure you go to www.wedsafe.com and check out possibly buying some wedding insurance!!! Unlike northern brides, we have to worry about our big days getting monsooned on, not just rained on ;)
I'm a SC bee. I'm origionally from Anderson County (Williamston) but live in Greenwood. I'm getting married next fall in Spartanburg and can't wait.
