Hi all. Im planning a very small backyard wedding for next fall. Its only about 30 people. Need help at where to start. I dont know a good timeline for what I should be doing and when. Im just kinda putting ideas together. My mom bought me one of those wedding planners but it doesnt really help for my situation. Any advice? I cant afford or think I really need a professional wedding consultant. Thanks!

well, the good news is you already have your guest list, which helps determine a lot of the rest of the planning.
first off, i would set a budget (if you haven’t already), and determine what the most important elements of your wedding are to you and your fiance. Do you want amazing food? Amazing photography? Is your dress going to be your big splurge?
Next, I would look for a photographer (as these book up early!) and depending on your food sitch, a caterer.

A backyard wedding makes things easier in a lot of ways, but there are other considerations that come up – parking, bathrooms, and supplies and furniture that usually comes with an external venue. For 30 people, you shouldn’t have a huge undertaking, but there are a lot of little details that come up.
I think like with any wedding, start with: determine your budget, the feel (casual, garden party, etc) you want to go with, and any details that you or Fiance think are necessary to your wedding day. Once you have those in place (since those are your limiting or guiding factors), go through each aspect – photgraphy, music, food, officiant, flowers, etc – and I would say address the areas that you are going to “outsource” to professionals. Getting them arranged and booked should be relatively early, since you are dependent on their schedule and need time to find the right vendor at the right price.
Hope that helps, and I hope you have fun planning!
