hey!!! yaaaaay! finally a northeast florida board!!! :) :) :) haha
Hi fellow NE Florida bees. I still haven't decided if we'll be getting married near here or running away! It will be nice to know there are other local bees around either way.
Hey girls! I'm a N FL (St Auggie) bride too! I also got married back in April!
Hi Floridans!!! I'm from Jacksonville and I'm getting married at Bethel Baptist! Luv to chat about wedding-hotness!
Hello there ladies...
I am a Jacksonville Bride getting married downtown in May 2009. I must say that I am a little suprised to see anyone from Jacksonville on weddingbee... and anxious to get to know you all.
Hello,
Both me and my finace are from Greenville, SC, but we are getting married June 6, 2009 on Amelia Island. The church is downtown Fernandina, and the reception is on the plantation at Walker's Landing. I grew up coming to visit my grandparents here, so we decided to have a destination-ish wedding in beautiful and sunny Florida!
I just got married at Oyster Bay Yacht Club in Fernandina last weekend. It was wonderful!
Hey Im from the Panama City/Tallahassee area...would love to chat with other brides in the area.... :)
etatum2 - did you see that there is also a Florida Panhandle board? You may want to be on both!
I grew up up in Jacksonville - spent 20 years there before moving to Los Angeles.
Even though I don't live there anymore, I am stilk familar with vendors. Plus I go home 2-3 times a year.
Hello! I am getting married May 2 in Amelia Island. My fiance and I moved here from San Francisco, so this is a destination wedding for all our guests. I saw someone was married at Oyster Bay, how was it? We are looking to have our rehearsal dinner there. Glad to see Jacksonville people on here!
CalJax - I was down in Amelia last weekend meeting with my vendors. My caterer, Michelle Sharp with "My Personal Chef", is now the chef for Oyster Bay - we went out there to meet with her, and the venue is GORGEOUS. The only thing I'll say is that it is before you get to the Intracoastal Waterway bridge - so it's technically off the island - it's really only 10-15 minutes from downtown. You have to travel a pretty far ways back there, but once you get there, it's such a beautiful venue. I think it would be an awesome place for a rehearsal dinner. We thought about it, but I think we're doing ours at Brett's Waterway Cafe. It's walking distance from the Hampton Inn & Suites, and right downtown so that people can go to the Palace Saloon, etc. afterwards and meet up with other guests who are down visiting.
The only thing I feel bad about is that Brett's holds about 100 people. That means we can't really ask everyone who's coming down for the wedding (and EVERYONE is from out of town). I guess I'll just suggest great places to eat out on Friday night, and then say to meet up downtown or something like that. Has anyone else had this problem?
I actually just got married at Oyster Bay in October. I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to send me a private message.
McRae - Thanks for the information!! I am a little worried about getting people there since it is a bit away. How is Michelle? That's who we spoke to about the menu we are looking to do. She was a little bit more than other caterers we looked at.
Our main problem is the Shrimp Festival is happening the weekend of our wedding, so downtown is a bit off limits for us. Not many places are willing to host us. We are in your boat with almost ALL guests from out of town, so we have like 120 on our guest list now and that's not everyone. I feel your pain because we can't invite everyone. One thing we thought of doing is meeting up with people at the Shrimp Festival after (like at Florida Inn, Palace Saloon. Maybe include some information is the guest gift bags, like "good eats" and then ask to meet up at a certain time at one of the fun bars down there. There is also Falcon's Nest at Amelia Island Plantation (which for us may be less crowded to get to).
Are you form Jacksonville? When is your wedding? Congrats!
Michelle is great! I think she knows good food, and she's also really easy to get along with. I like her "take-charge" attitude because I simply get lost in planning menus!
Oh right! I totally forgot the Shrimp Festival is May 2 - that probably does make things a little harder for downtown. I love the idea of meeting up with people at the Shrimp Festival and setting somewhere as the meeting spot. It's great because you know they'll all be entertained and have something to do. Ok, so if downtown will not work for the rehearsal dinner....what about Ribault Club, something on the Plantation, Summer Beach - or doing a BBQ or fiesta somewhere if you wanted more casual?
Where are your ceremony and reception taking place?
I am actually from Greenville, SC. My Grandparents lived on the plantation for about 35 years before they passed away (my Aunt & uncle live there now), and we're getting married in the same church where my parents got married. It holds so many special memories for our family, and it's one of my favorite places! Our wedding is June 6th and the reception is at Walker's Landing. Sorry my messages are SOOO long!! Congrats on your engagement too!!
Hey McRae -
Wow, how special! And I love Walker's Landing, such a great location. We looked there and it was all booked up. You are going to have such a great view with the sun setting. I love Amelia Island, we moved here from California and immediately fell in love with the area.
I looked at Ribault Club...the rental fee was a bit more. It's another great location! We started with a Low Country Boil menu, but have thought about a BBQ theme. This has been the most stressful thin so far..ha!
We are getting married at the Ritz-Carlton.
Do you have all your vendors? How is it planning from a distance?
Hello bees!!!!
i am from Jacksonville.. getting married in St Aug next spring... cant wait to get to know you ladies!!!
:)))
I'm being nosey but where did you North Florida brides go to high school?
I went to Bishop Kenny!
Hey CalJax -
I'm going to send you a personal message!!
McRae
Hey guys!
I am a March 21st, 2009 bride getting married at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in downtown Jax; and then the reception will be at the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island.
I am actually having my rehearsal dinner at the Range of the Jaguar plaza at the Jacksonville Zoo & Botanical gardens. It's a unique and beautiful location, and they will even allow you to have the exhibits open for your guests after hours.
Also, I pretty much have all my vendors set now, so if you girls have questions on bridal gowns, photogs, anything, let me know!
CalJax - where are you doing your reception at the Ritz? I am having an outdoor cocktail hour on the Oceanfront Lawn, and the reception at the Plaza Ballroom.
kitty - my sister had her ceremony at immaculate conception. it's such a gorgeous church!
Hi bees, I'm from Baker County, Fl living in Tampa, Fl getting married in Jacksonville, FL! lol. I went to high school at Baker County High in 2000. My wedding/reception is on a budget friendly scale so I am having it at the Ramona Pavilion. I would have loved for it to be at the Omni, but that's double our price just for food alone! If anyone has any good vendors let me know.
Hi Bees!! I live in Jax! my fiance and I are getting married in St. Augustine April 2010! We should all try to get together...it would be fun!!
