Really!? I thought it was terrible! I generally like Oscar de la Renta, but I thought that dress really did nothing for Hilary. I haven't seen a full-length shot, but those weird shoulder bits? It just looked so fussy and cluttered, and she should not have had so much arm on show. I thought Hilary's mum looked so much better!
But then, whenever I see photos of Hilary I always think she could do better. There's nothing wrong, in principle, with trouser suits, but her trouser suits....
Oh, duh, Hillary's dress. I am so confused. I thought Hillary's dress was a nightmare. Maybe cute on somebody else but not for her.
I liked the top, but thought the bottom looks like an artichoke.
Ok ignore me. I read Hillary and thought Chelsea. I liked the color and the top, but I thought the bottom was over the top and the flowers were a little young.
Hillary's dress: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/04/hillary-clintons-oscar-de_n_670502.html
I thought Hillary's dress was awful, it was somehow matronly and too youthful for her at the same time.
I think it would have worked out all right if it was all one color, I especially like the color on the top! But see how it fades to a light pinkish.... urgh, just doesn't do it for me!
I think it was a great colour for Hilary but I didn't like the design or style of the dress on her - it was a bit like mutton dressed as lamb.
PS I didn't much like Chelsea's specific dress, either, but I LOVED the silhouette she created! With the veil and everything. That's the look I'm going for too :)
i love chelsea's dress. hilary's dress.. that's another story
I don't dig Hillary's. I think she could have done something much more chic. That hot pink dress looks like something that a girl would want for her Sweet 16.
@Audrey9398: The flowers were a little young? I am constantly amazed at what younger women think is inappropriate for us "older" folks. A mini skirt or a super-tight hugging dress might be too young, but flowers on the bottom of a dress? Come on! Sorry kids, but us over 50 folks no longer break out the granny dresses and take up knitting just beause we are older. I would definitely rock a dress like that and the flowers are what I like the best! Hillary looks stunning in that dress!
@bluespurrs: I was thinking the same thing! When did flowers become too young?? Personally I don't love the dress, but not because I thought it was too young for her...It just isn't my style.
I loved Chelsea's dress, but for some reason was not a huge fan of Hillary's - though I'm not quite sure why
Oh dear, I do not like Hillary's dress at all. The color, the flowers, just don't work.
However I DO think her hair has never looked prettier!! And her jewelry is lovely.
It's just a terrible dress. It looks more like a panto dress than a real dress. It still be a terrible dress if Angelina Jolie was wearing it. Since Chelsea's gone for a pretty simple and clean look, I'm surprised that she supported her mum choosing something from Widow Twanky's wardrobe. I think the reason that it looks both matronly and too young is that it's really very little-girlish - so it's not womanly at all. Mrs Rodham's outfit is impeccable - elegant and understated, and her brooch beautifully echoes Chelsea's belt. What happened with Hillary??
I certainly don't think that older women should wear granny dresses - Nan Kempner was, and forever more shall be, one of my style icons. Ditto Carolina Herrera and Deeda Blair, to name but two. Just think of anything that Helen Mirren has worn in the last 5 years, or Judy Dench or Candice Bergen. But you tend to think that by the time you've got to 50 or 60, you've found your sense of style, and can relegate dire fashion mistakes to the past.
Personally, I really like the dress, just not for a mother of the bride gown. Chelsea's dress makes a big statement and when you put her dress in a picture with her mom's dress there's just too much going on. I don't think it looks too little girlish, I think it looks a little too bridal. But I'm super-fond of the Clinton family so it would be hard for me to say anything outright bad about them.
It's an ugly dress. Period. Grandma looked great, Chelsea looked great.
Im glad first lady Obama hasn't let De La Renta dress her yet; lord only knows what he would do....

Much has been said about Chelsea's lovely wedding gown, but I was glancing through an issue of People's magazine while in line at the grocery store and got to see a pic of Hillary's dress and it is really gorgeous!
