We paid $50 per musician per hour, and there was a set-up fee of $150 if we hired them for less than some number of hours. (I think it was less than two hours, but I'm not sure - we had the same musicians for the reception and ceremony, so actually had some of them for 5 hours and some for 4). That seems to be standard for a multiple-piece band in our area (single musicians tend to charge more per hour, which still makes them cheaper on the whole). We had 6 musicians total, so that came to $300 an hour.
Generally you are going to have to pay them for the time they are actually there, as opposed to the time you want them to play - so if you have them start playing at 9:00 and finish at midnight that's actually 3 hours, even if you have them break for a while in the middle so you can have toasts and cut cake and whatnot.

What is the going rate for a live band? I'm only looking for 2 hours of music - 2 one hour sets, starting after 9pm, wrapping before midnight.
For a 4-person band (vocals, guitar, bass, drum), what seems like a reasonable rate for 2 hours? Genre is wedding standards.
